For Chicago coming up, NickRit2000 and T is for Tool were talking about a Fantasy Draft. They were discussing 5 person teams, placements would be on the team's overall record. Any ideas on how we should do this?

Have all the people who are going to the gp post saying so and then have a poll for who should be team leaders, top X (where X is # of players/5) are team leaders then have a draft with pick order going by who got the most votes on the poll rinse and repeat? Something like that?

But do we include everyone? Or do we just pick the top 50 people?

This probably automatically discludes me from potentially being eligible to play, but, what is a fantasy draft?

I think everyone going to the GP should be included, and just stop drafting after each team has 5 (or whatever arbitrary number).

Di just mentioned this... We could base it off the NBA or NFL drafts and have positions or spots.

Aggro Control Player
Combo Player
Aggro Player
Control Player
and....? Deck Designer? Free spot?

Only problem is we don't know what people are playing said decks.

If you do it I'm in.

This sounds dumb, especially since if I were participating my team would almost certainly all be playing the same deck.

You would have to draft your team. You wouldn't be choosing friends you're driving with unless you drafted them. Either way, it's not concrete.

Sounds like fun IMO

Ok, so how does this work since I'll be going.

I don't do those fantasy football things if that's what you are talking about.

I was assuming you could draft people not on MTS, and if that's the case, I'm pretty certain no one on this site knows who they are.

I guess if you ended up being a captain, sure. I don't know. I'm still looking for ideas on how to organize this.

I don't see any reason to overcomplicate it. Anyone should be able to post a list of five names for their team. Then, after the GP, add the final scores from all of the 'team' members. At the end whoever has the highest score wins. Drafting players would only work in small groups anyway.

This would be the easiest. Anyone object? Only problem is people picking identical teams.

Well, if we're just picking names, I'd pick these since we're all the top spot Michigan (ok, so Steve is Ohio) players and friends, aside from not knowing Brian or Steve. Well, yet anyway. I have a feeling I'll meet them there with Pat.

Brian DeMars
Pat Chapin
William (Bill) Allman
Chad Clark
Steve Menendian

Seems kind of cheesy since I know exactly how well they will do and what they will be playing.

I think we would have a list of captains who could be voted on. then a list of players (from the legacy community not pros who are going). then each captain picks one at a time until the team is full.

So does that mean I'm out? I'm higher ranked than Pat.

If you pick an identical team, you can't win.

I think drafting players is silly, takes too long, and excludes too many people from making predictions. Just create a thread, have each person who wants post their top 5, and lock it once the GP starts.

The only question is whether you go by totals (points or placing) or by averages.

Edit: I will be putting up a full questionnaire like Bardo used to run on TMD, asking for guesses on most popular cards, decks, and such. Just giving a heads up (and if you have suggestions for questions to put on it, PM me)

I can't speak for all fantasy sports websites but Yahoo! has both fantasy golf and racing games (I don't play them but my job requires me to be familiar with them). You pick 8 players, 4 starters and 4 bench players and you can swap them out at the end of every round of whatever golf tournament is going on this week. As systems go it seems to work pretty well. I suppose for tiebreakers you could pick the overall winner of the tournament or something. The switching of players between rounds is probably a little complicated for a magic tournament but the basic format could work.

I don't necessarily see why two people couldn't pick the same team. Just evaluate their standings based on the earliest timestamp of the post.
