How does Vision Charm (http://magiccards.info/vi/en/49.html) interact with Vedalken Shackles (http://magiccards.info/5dn/en/164.html)?

Vedalken Shackles
3
Artifact
You may choose not to untap Vedalken Shackles during your untap step.
2, T Gain control of target creature with power less than or equal to the number of Islands you control as long as Vedalken Shackles remains tapped.

It works well. To my knowledge, Shackles only checks when the ability resolves, not continuously.

502.15h. (http://www.mtgthesource.com/forums/) Phased-out cards (http://www.yawgatog.com/resources/magic-rules/#card) "remember" their past histories and will return to play (http://www.yawgatog.com/resources/magic-rules/#play) in the same state. They "remember" any counters (http://www.yawgatog.com/resources/magic-rules/#counter) they had on them, any choices made when they first came into play (http://www.yawgatog.com/resources/magic-rules/#play), whether they were flipped when they left play (http://www.yawgatog.com/resources/magic-rules/#play), and whether they were tapped (http://www.yawgatog.com/resources/magic-rules/#tapped) or untapped (http://www.yawgatog.com/resources/magic-rules/#untapped) when they left play (http://www.yawgatog.com/resources/magic-rules/#play). They also "remember" who controlled them when they phased out (http://www.yawgatog.com/resources/magic-rules/#phased_out), although they may phase (http://www.yawgatog.com/resources/magic-rules/#phase) in under the control (http://www.yawgatog.com/resources/magic-rules/#control__controller) of a different player (http://www.yawgatog.com/resources/magic-rules/#player) if a control (http://www.yawgatog.com/resources/magic-rules/#control__controller) effect (http://www.yawgatog.com/resources/magic-rules/#effect) with limited duration has expired. No possible abuse here, assuming that's what you suggested. You Vision Charm a tapped Shackles, you get back a tapped Shackles.

What happens during the time in which Shackles is phased out? The creature doesn't switch controllers?

What are you asking? Phasing the Shackles, or making lots of Islands?

I thought the question was, can you Vision Charm a Shackles to get back your creature temporarily?

You all answered it from the perspective of HAVING the Shackles on your side. hehe

If the Shackles is not in play, it isn't tapped. If it stops being tapped, the Shackles effect ends.

Yeah I totally thought he was saying he wanted to change lands into Islands. Wow, go me.

I just realised that another cool trick involving these two cards is turning all your opponent's Islands into another basic land type in response to his Shackles activation. Unless he was targeting a 0-power creature, the ability will fizzle due to an illegal target and you'll get another turn's worth of swinging.

Wow, Vision Charm is total anti-Shackles tech!
