Our local store owner Dave Beaubien of the Fun Factory in Traverse City, MI had a heart attack on Feb 16th and had open heart surgery. Unfortunately, he did not have insurance. He did make it out of it alive and is recovering well.

Dave's Brother Paul, one customer Bill, and myself are now running the store and keeping it going. I run the online side of it and sell a lot of sets for him on Ebay as it was and now I am pushing it even further than before.

We held a benefit Spaghetti dinner for him and that raised several hundred dollars, but that's far from touching that bill. He's in debt around $150,000 now.

The Legacy players have gotten together to hold the store and keep it all running. Dave literally gave his trusted customers the key to the door and we open and close it as normal.

We trade, sell, and order the cards. We keep the shelves stocked and turn the money in to his brother at the end of the night.

It's kind of surprising how a bunch of Magic players could stick together and keep the store they play in running, but he's been a good store owner and treated us all good over the years. He's a good man.

My name is Chad Clark and I have been Dave's friend for over 13 years. I run this small Ebay site as a way to help Dave sell some sets.

http://stores.ebay.com/Yawgmoth-Bargains

I want to ask if you could take a look through and see if there's anything you could use. I sell a ton of sets and have a perfect feedback rating no less. If there's anything you need, just mail me and I'll see if I can help you out. I can get a hold of just about anything.

I recently placed all of Dave's sets on sale to help pay the medical bills. I've always had lower prices than Troll and Toad or Starcity anyway so it's a great time to pick one up if you ever had the desire to pick up a set.

Have a heart and help out a few Legacy players who want to keep their store open.

Thanks,
Chad Clark

It's very very true, I too am part of this store and community.

Dave does need all the help he can get at this point, so any help that is received is very very appreciated.

Sorry for your friend. It's amazing he is not forced to sell his store, especially in these financial times.

I wish the best of luck to Dave, you, and his friends and local community. I've put you guys on my favorite sellers and will check back before buying new cards.

Your friend needs to talk to a lawyer soon about how to handle this. There are ways to transfer the store so that most of his assets don't disappear if he goes bankrupt. This could mean things like transferring the store to his brother or another owner.

I don't think it's the store going bankrupt, it's the bill from the hospital/surgery that puts him in the debt.

Well, he actually has a partner so he won't lose it if he goes bankrupt, but why bother if you can actually raise the cash to pay it off. I already hit over $7000 this week. That's not shabby for a Ebay store. Our little Spaghetti dinner made around $300 and that's amazing considering most Magic players aren't the richest of folks. At least we prevented people from hitting up Buger King. Heh. So not counting whatever the actual store actually made, we're eating up that bill fairly fast now.

It'll take a while I'm sure, but I think at the rate we're going, we may avoid his bankruptcy. Kind of funny since the store hasn't made this much in a long time. Too bad I know it's mostly from people wanting to just help him out, but that says a lot about the customers.
