I have an upcoming legacy tournament where the meta is unknown for the most part, though I know it will be a small tourny, 8-12 most likely. I know there will be one Sligh/Blood Moon/Magus of the Moon deck, a crappy white weenie, I expect a UG madness, possibly thresh. Overall rather janky from what I know, though this may be misleading. My strategy going in to this was to pick a deck that could deal with many archtypes game one fairly easily. I figured the deck to do this with was MUC.
Here's the list:
4 Threads of Disloyalty
4 Powder Keg
3 Vedalken Shackles
4 Force of Will
4 Counterspell
4 Spell Snare
3 Prohibit
3 Forbid
3 Polymorph
1 Progenitus
4 Standstill
4 Faerie Conclave
4 Mishra’s Factory
4 Quicksand
12 Island
Card choices:
Threads of Loyalty- Overall a great creature control spell. Works especially well with Polymorph.
Powder Keg- MUC is great at dealing with anything due to it's large number of counters, this is for the cards that slip by. Helps with aggro.
Vedalken Shackles- Needed against aggro, works great with Polymorph.
Force of Will- goes in all blue decks
Counterspell- auto include
Spell Snare- questionable against unknown meta, though if it is anything like regular legacy meta, this card's a house
Prohibit- I think it's the next best counter, especially to help combat aggro. Chosen over mana leak/ rune snag due to it being relevant mid-late game. This spot could be daze with all of the spells I'll be wanting to play on my turn.
Forbid- I've always been a fan. Discards Progenitus to get it back in deck in a pinch. This slot could be brainstorm (which is not all that impressive without fetches which I don't have more than 1 of), or possibly Thirst for Knowledge if the Polymorphs were switched for Proteus Staff. Fact or fiction is another option but does not give a way to cycle Progenitus.
Polymorph- wincon, seems janky I'm sure, but it'll be fun and will help against aggro because post side I can have creatures that will clear the board like the red flyer that deals 3 damage to each creature or something to that effect (i think it's from portal?)
Progenitus- finisher
Standstill + Manlands- It's a good package on its own, the manlands work well with Polymorph.
Sideboard: This is something I desperately need help with as well. I was thinking Nevin. Disk's, possibly Douse because I will have a fairly good chance of playing against the Sligh/Moon deck, and also some extra counterspells for the combo matchup. Possibly stifle? Gaea's Blessing, or does MUC beat Solidarity?
Thanks for any suggestions.
