I saw this in a vintage psychatog deck. Could we use this as another blue answer to burn or combo? seems like it could prove to be a flexable side card at least. maybe even good against thresh.

1) Consider in what deck's sideboard it could go

2) Compare it to the cards it would replace

With specific regard to Mystic Remora: it's a card meant for attrition fights. Burn and combo are not answered by paying lots of mana to draw some cards - they're answered by shutting them down with tools like Counterbalance or Chalice, or like Pulse of the Fields and Gaddock Teeg.

For matchups where you can afford the tempo hit - remember, we don't have Vintage's Moxes to pay for its upkeep - I wonder if Ancestral Visions wouldn't be a more efficient source of extra card drawing.

I do guess it could be usefull. Dropping it turn 1 or 2 againsīt some decks, is almost like U ou U1 for 2 or 3 cards. Never assembled a deck capable of using them though...

Its alot less powerful in an unpowered environment. In Type 1 if you're on the play and drop Remora, either your opponent plays out their artifact mana and tutors/draw, and you net cards off each of them, or they don't play them and you net ridiculous tempo.

In Legacy its more like playing Standstill only it ties up your mana to maintain it. Your opponent can draw go, til they have an explosive hand and if you've managed to maintain the cumulative upkeep for a few turns you're tapped out, so your defenses are likely limited to Daze and FoW.

I am considering making a deck out of it, running Power Conduit and Chain of Vapor to help with it.

IMO its not a bad idea against combo as it allows you to have 4 more main deck answers so that you dont have to mull to force/daze. Basically if you drop it vs combo you pretty much net a shit ton of cards and win.

Only some combo. Not so much vs. Aluren or Painter/Grindstone.

I seem to remember Remora being tossed around way back in the day when I first registered and Threshold suddenly emerged from sleeperdom into the LMF...
As I recall, it was always rejected back then because it tied up all of your mana and didn't make enough of an impact so as to be "worth it." Seriously though, I don't think this is worthy of replacing any cards in Merfolk, CounterTop, or Tempo Thresh, which are probably the only decks that would play it.

against Combo, its a pretty nice SB card. Yet, you'll need to put it in a Stompy deck to make it worth while to keep up with the upkeep costs...

Vintage: Yes
Legacy: No

Not all combo's need to storm off... Hell, in the rest of the format, it kinda blows. Cumulative upkeep really puts a damper on it

moreover, it shine sin vintage due to its sinergy with Meditate and the gazillion fast spells *any* opponent will casts.

Well, it's interesting since it buys time, but... giving combo time is kinda stupid. They love to draw cards and make land drops, because it gives them more resources with which to bust a combolicious nut in your face. I would consider it against ANT in a deck that you can apply significant early pressure with, negating their 'life buffer' (in the words of edilmin [sp]) and making their Ad Neasueam draw smaller. Maybe threshold, but that's not really a hard match for thresh anyway. It just seems like a win-more card.
