Lets say I have a bunch of exalted creatures, and a guy who can give a creature with power 5 or greater vigilance. Now I attack with one creature and it only gets the 5 power once the exalted kicks in... can I give it vigilance?

I guess I'm wondering when the exalted bonus happens? Is it when tapped already or when just declared as the only attacker?

Vigilance: Vigilance is a static ability that modifies the rules for the declare attackers step. Attacking doesn't cause creatures with vigilance to tap. See rule 502.14, "Vigilance."

Exalted: Exalted is a triggered ability. "Exalted" means "Whenever a creature you control attacks alone, that creature gets +1/+1 until end of turn." See rule 502.83, "Exalted."

It seems like you don't understand how the attack step works.

308. Declare Attackers Step

308.1. As the declare attackers step begins, the active player declares attackers. This game action doesn't use the stack. If the defending player controls any planeswalkers, or the game allows the active player to attack multiple other players, he or she declares which player or planeswalker each creature is attacking. Then any abilities that triggered on attackers being declared go on the stack. (See rule 410, "Handling Triggered Abilities.") Then the active player gets priority and players may play spells and abilities.

Quite obviously, Exalted does not trigger and resolve until you declare a creature as attacking - it could not work any other way.

Yeah I don't understand that why I'm asking here. Is the creature creature tapped or not when it gets the +1/+1?

I guess this pertains to things like Caltrops, and Ensnaring Bridge too....

Let me try again. Tapping is a cost of attacking. Exalted triggers on attacking. If a creature does not have Vigilance, it cannot attack without tapping. It cannot trigger Exalted unless it attacks (alone).

Caltrops also triggers on attacking. Ensaring Bridge creates a restriction on what can attack.
