I was just wondering what everyone thought of the new magic webcomic 5ColorControl (http://www.5colorcontrol.com/comic.php?comic=1).

Not quite as good as UGmadness (http://ugmadness.net/), I am guessing will be one reaction ;)

Unless it starts to have walk-ons of European leaders via MWS I doubt it'll catch on.

I actually like this one better than UGM. Maybe if they update on time, people will actually read it, too.

You need to raise your bar, dude. UGMadness is bottom of the barrel.

Something tells me he's the author of it. I don't know what it is with M:tg comics, but they seem to disappoint me time after time. UGM had a couple of good ones, but usually wasn't too great. Same for TTL and this one, tbh.

Also, add an RSS feed, or risk losing me as an audience.

I don't get why this is supposed to be funny. But then again, I don't laugh at MWS horror stories either, so whatever.

It's not very good, not horrible but the jokes are too obvious and the long blog-like explanations under the comics just make them look iffy. Also it has the 'too much text' syndrom but I guess that goes hand in hand with the explanations (THIS IS A JOKE, GET IT? GET IT? GET IT?).

My advice to the writer would be to stay away from any type of inside jokes, focus on more common MTG players' idiosyncrasies, and sprinkle a liberal dose of malignity and cruelty to make the familiar seem more alien. And read the MagicLampoon archives if you haven't already.

I recommend this (http://www.moxes.com/search/label/tiras%20cómicas) to anyone with minimal spanish skills, it's a comic section of a spanish blog. They're pretty good, but some can be difficult to understand, as characters use spanish mtg slang (mostly mtg slang, but it talks about the character's personality). I'd like to point out that they use Strip Generator (http://stripgenerator.com/), very handy if you have good ideas but can't/don't want to draw.

As many of you guessed, I am the author of the comic. More exactly, I am the writer, Taylor. The artists name is Alex.

Many many people have told me to add an 'RSS' feed. I have never used a RSS feed myself (I just remember which comics I read ;)) but I have tried to add one to the site, just now. I was hoping someone that does use a RSS feed could tell me if it 'worked' (I know you might not be able to tell me until Thursday when we up data it, but meh)

The link is at the top of the page (http://www.5colorcontrol.com/).

Edit: Fixed broken link....

Well, the feed works and it doesn't.

What it does:

Let's me know when the site is updated
Tells me the title of the comic

What it doesn't do:

Show me the comic in the feed

As showing me the comic is the primary purpose, I'd assume this is something you could fix. Here's some links to similar feeds which do accomplish this task - perhaps you can find some help there.

Feedburner may have some advice, or shit to sell you, too.

Oh, and by the way - kudos on the site design. It's simple, elegant, and relevant. I like it, a lot.

Yeah, all of those site (and ones I was looking at, like XKCD's feed) seem to be running java, which I am not. (or at least I don't think I am)
I tried to do it like that last night, and ended up spending 3-4 hours on it trying to get the pictures, and trying to get my google analytics thing to tell me when someone was looking at a comic and all that.

This morning I just said 'screw it ' and spend 40 minutes I should have been working on my thesis proposal to make that feed, which forces you to go to the site (which may become good if we ever decide to get advertisements or something).

I may try looking into the picture feed sometime in the future again, when I have a day or two to mess around with it. But I am afraid right now it is what it is.

(and the site design was all Alex, wish I could take credit for it, since it is quite cool)

That's cool, man. As long as I can see when a new comic is up, I'm down with it.

A feed that shows the actual comic can be sub-optimal since it takes up a lot of screen real estate. I'd suggest one that links to the comic and one that actually shows it.

There was a typeo in the code, I had rss.xlm when I needed rss.php

Fixed it now, you should be able to switch back and forth between the main page and the rss page.

Sorry to Necro this thread...

But I really like this comic. I feel shameful for laughing at LaskyTron, but I play Magic, so I'm used to shame. Anybody else read this?
