Has anyone else wondered why a certain web site has offered to buy revised dual lands like badlands and savannah at $25 each. Some speculation that I have heard is that a lot of these cards are in high demand in non-US markets. Any ideas?

Well, for my country, vintage/legacy staples are very expensive compared to online prices. For example, according to magictraders.com, Polluted Delta is $18 - here, converted to US dollars it's close to $30.
Maybe it's the supply.

I'm sure that places outside the US have more difficulty in getting the mass of cards the US has AND not all US stores/online are willing to sell outside the US. Perhaps those who are, can charge more for dealing with non-US customers.

I personally have no problems getting my legacy staples, badlands go for about €15 here, fows for 17,50, delta's for €20 etc, not really a big difference I guess.

My local store (Czech republic - Europe :)) buy Badlands for 25$ and sold for 35$. Why US is so much cheaper? I don't know

Let's hope SCG has overheard some wizards talk concerning Legacy going to be hyped soonish.

Many US shops/ebayers don't send to Europe :(
And many people in Europe (or in Czech rep. At least) don't have credit card for internet payment.
What is funny?
1) In US you can buy FoW for something like 22$. In my local store? 890CZK (1$=21CZK).
2) I bought my beta sinkholes from US for the same price as I can buy unlimited sinkholes in my local stores.

Guys, you've been in freaking Schengen for five years now: if you get asked >30€ locally for FoWs, grab them on magiccardmarket.eu (or EBay set to search in the EU) for 19-20€.
And if you don't have or need a credit card, use a cash-rechargeable debit card.

Vintage and Legacy staples are more expensive in Europe because there is a huge demmand (hey, compare number of tournaments and assistance) while less cards are available. MTG was born in USA and limited is more played so you end up with a bigger stock of cards. It's that easy.
For reference. Tarmogoyf is still reaching 35€ (47$!) in big shops and you can't get it for less than 26€ (35$).

Good point. Yet why is it that the UK, Spain and Portugal have not much a problem acquiring the parts they need for the formats?

It is all based on supply and demand. It changes with the region, much like different decks are more popular in certain areas. Like dreadstill is big in mass. And bad decks run rampant in syracuse.

Uh, I live in Portugal, and I can assure you that outside of the internet, it's very hard to find legacy/vintage cards here. Maybe only a handful of stores in the whole country carry them on a significant amount.

I'm just wondering, has anyone noticed, not even for Europe, that the price of most good cards has increased? If the world is in an economic slump, why have prices gone up?

Supply and demand.
When I saw SCG's buying vintage/legacy staples, the first thing I thought was that they know something we don't and are trying to take advantage of that. SCG's may even be thinking that they can foster some more Legacy tournaments with the current interest in the format and make a profit. It seems shady to me, but I guess it's all business.
 Check out the tournament announcements, lol.

Their prices are pretty amazing and am definitely selling to them. They probably are planning on having a lot of legacy events inthefuture which could increase the demand, so they are buying now.

Probably people are cutting more expensive stress relief plans, like vacations, and staying home and taking up a hobby instead.

Most hobbies are fairly countercyclical.

I live in Hong Kong.
I think it is not easy to get Vintage/Legacy Staples in Hong Kong.
Most of my collection come from ebay.
Occasionally, there was some old players selling duals, fetches.
but the price they quoted is similar in ebay.
don't know why...

Its true that supply and demand is the cause of the price increase, however I'll toss out the following warrants as to why the demand has gone up.
-Large Events-
After the success of such a large GP in Chicago for Legacy, the format received a large boost in popularity. Also, as pointed out earlier, there are several large Legacy events coming up over the next few months. This would lead to more people moving over to the format which will create a greater demand. Additionally, the type of players likely to show up to a GP are going to want to get the staples to play in order to participate at such a high level. This fact has application else where and I'll discuss those in some other places.
-Value-
Any of the Legacy cards that are staples represent a good investment. Buying any dual land, the odds are the price will only stay the same, if not increase. This, compared to Standard were a $15 card will become worth less than $5 after it rotates out.
-Extended-
In the status quo, the Extended season is over which could represent a partial shift back to Legacy. Additionally, after people play Extended long enough, they might as well add some more cards to their collection and they'll be able to move into Legacy
*I'll add a crazy story about supply and demand. At the GP Chicago, there was vendor buying Force of Will at $45 a piece and then selling them for $50 and couldn't keep them in stock because the demand was so high. It just goes to show you how intense demand can get and what ends up happening at as result to the price.
