Here's a list that tries to exploit Braids + Bitterblossom and varoius Smokestack synergies.
4 x Trinisphere
4 x Chalice
4 x Dark Ritual
4 x Bitterblossom
4 x Damnation
3 x Crucible
3 x Phyrexian Totem
4 x Smokestack
4 x Braids, Cabal Minion
2 x Tombstalker
4 x Wasteland
4 x Ancient Tomb
3 x City of Traitors
2 x Tomb of Urami
8 x Swamp
4 x Polluted Delta
What do you guys think? Could this be a competitive Stax variant?

I'm just not sure you'll be able to keep control of the game with your current black shell. I sure miss the propaganda/prison and tabernacle effects too. Why not a splash? White gives you prison/armageddon/vindicate/magus.
Also, I can see you dieing to bitterblossom after a few uses of ancient tomb. Stax was never a fast deck, and with no life gain and a slow clock, bitterblossom might be too much damage in the long run.

Good point about the life-loss.
Any suggestions for decent lifegain in this deck's colors? I'd rather not splash anything else for the time being, to be honest.

I've been experimenting with Braids stax recently. I splashed Green for Words of Wilding + Sylvan Library, the possibility of running 8 stack effects are nice and the words + stacks makes it possible to destroy decks with a large amount of permanents.
At the same time you get card filtering from the library. I'll try to post my decklist later.

You should at least consider Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth to cover your :b::b: needs. It also lets you tap an Ancient Tomb for :b: without getting 2 damage.

Spinning Darkness or Syphon Life are prolly your best options imo.
I'd sideboard Duress. Leyline the Void. Contamination. Something like that, you might need some hand removal but I could be totally wrong ^.^
