View Full Version : Alter Reality
hello,
Is it possible to build a deck around this card? - Alter Reality
It can destroy the opponent's manabase by changing the color his lands would produce.

I don't think alter reality works the way you think with land.
212.6g The basic land types are Plains, Island, Swamp, Mountain, and Forest. If an object uses the words "basic land type," it's referring to one of these subtypes. A basic land type implies an intrinsic ability to produce colored mana. (See rule 406, "Mana Abilities.") An object with a basic land type is treated as if its text box included "{T}: Add [mana symbol] to your mana pool," even if the text box doesn't actually contain text or the object has no text box. Plains produce white mana; Islands, blue; Swamps, black; Mountains, red; and Forests, green.
So there's no instances of any color words on lands, so you can't use alter reality to change it.
If you're interested in mana denial decks, look at Team America, Dragon Stompy, Aggro loam, or Tempo/Canadian thresh to name a few.
You must be right :frown:
I think the rules are not crystal clear, as [mana symbol] can be seen as a color word, however, compared to mind bend, there, basic land typs are mentioned specially.

The color words are red, blue, green, white, black. The mana symbols are {R} {UB} {G} {W} {B}. Totally different.
Well, you can define: {R} = red mana ^^
