View Full Version : What's your gauntlet?

I'm curious about what everyone's current testing gauntlet tends to look like. What decks do you think are and aren't worth spending time on playing against?

Mine is something like:
Naya Zoo
Canadian Thresh
Dreadstill
Aggro Loam
Merfolk
Landstill

(And don't just say "go look at DTB forum," I know it exists. I'm wondering about about what gauntlet people think sufficiently tests their deck/play experience in a large enough variety of situations)

Decks I have currently:

R/b Goblins
U/r/g Dreadstill
Enchantress
Belcher
U/W/b Landstill
Ichorid

I haven't made new decks for awhile but I would probably change it up and add Naya Zoo, some sorta CB &Top thing ( I guess Dreadstill works but it plays more like NLU) and Merfolk.

You want at least one version of the following: Tribal Aggro, Traditional Aggro, Aggro-Control, Multi-Color Control a la Landstill, Board Control, Storm Combo and Ichorid (Is there any other successful GY based strategy in Legacy?) I'd probably throw some sorta Survival variant in there too.

The biggest problem for me is that I have no idea what the metagame is like in the Northwest US. So I try and test against everything instead of decks that I know I will most likely play against. If I was preparing for a GP or some other large tourney that would be fine but it's not very efficient in smaller settings.

Nassif Level Garbage should be in there somewhere.

Also Eva Deadguy bc it just steals wins sometimes, and most people don't take the deck that seriously anymore.

My current testgauntlet looks like this:

Canadian Thresh
Dragon Stompy
Dreadstill /r
Eva Green
Goblins /b
Goyf Sligh /w
Landstill UWb
Merfolk
Next Level Storm
NLU
Survival Rock (BGw with P Deed)

You've to keep in mind that the metagame is pretty diversified in West Germany.

/Edit: Ichorid is not listed, as I really hate to play against that deck. So why bother testing against it?

Canadian Threshold

Too much stuff imo.
Still have to cut somethin.

Dreadstill

UGB CB Control
UWx Landstill

Other decks don't matter to me.

I test primarily against the following decks:

1. Ichorid (can the deck hate out the gy properly)
2. Goblins (can the deck stop tribal aggro strategies)
3. Goyf Sligh (can the deck beat PoP and friends)
4. Countertop (can the deck survive...countertop)
5. Dragon Stompy (can the deck survive massive hate)
6. Aggro Loam (can the deck...beat aggro loam)
7. Canadian (can the deck beat a little of everything)

I would add storm combo/landstill but me and my companions aren't very good at playing any TES variation or Landstill so I'd rather not waste the time getting bad testing results.

This is really important. If at all possible try and find a testing partner that's better than you.

Team ADHD tests on Mono R Goblins, UGB CB Thresh, UGW CB Thresh, UGR TT, Dreadstill, Landstill, Eva Green, 2 The Rock variants, ANT, Merfolk, TEES, 5c Zoo, Goyf Sligh, Ichorid, Stax, Aggro Loam, Terra Nuevo, Dragon Stompy...

I think that's about it. No Faeries Stompy, Naya Zoo, Belcher, Aluren, Death & Taxes or different Goblin builds but they may come...

It's an Aggro Loam variant with white instead of red. And no, no Knight of the Reliquary ofcourse.
