lone wolf question

i have a question about lone wolf:

Casting cost: 2g

Card text: You may have Lone Wolf deal its combat damage to defending player as though it weren't blocked.

Oracle text: You may have Lone Wolf assign its combat damage as though it weren't blocked.

when i attack with lone wolf and someone blocks with a 2/2 creature

can i assign 2 damage to the player and have wolf die?

To answer your question: yes, when Lone Wolf is blocked by a 2/2 Lone Wolf will die. You can indeed chose to either deal the damage to the blocking creature or to the defending player.
