A friend of mine and I have "created" a new format. The deck construction rules are pretty simple in theory, but hard to do.
-Singleton format
-60 card deck
-15 card sideboard
-Each set can and must be in your deck exactly once. This means that you cannot use both Shriekmaw and Dread in the same deck. You can, however, use Tundra from Alpha and Volcanic Island from Beta. So cards count as viable from every set they have been printed in. However, no duplicates. You cannot run Terror for both Alpha and Beta.
This means your deck will probably consist of 46 cards, 14 Basic lands and 15
-B&R list is that of Legacy.
-Sets used are:
# Magic 2010
# Core Set - Tenth Edition
# Core Set - Ninth Edition
# Core Set - Eighth Edition
# Seventh Edition
# Classic - Sixth Edition
# Fifth Edition
# Fourth Edition
# Revised Edition
# Unlimited Edition
# Limited Edition: Beta
# Limited Edition: Alpha

It's still pre-M10, as I said, so no sideboard with 15 useless cards. Also no card from M10, so I'm still able to run 15 basic lands.
If anybody is interested, feel free to reply, I'd love to see if others have better ideas of what is possible with a format like this.
Also, if this is posted in the wrong place, my sincerest apologies and feel free to move it.

This format (more or less) has actually been around for a while under the name "New York Highlander" (http://www.mtgontario.com/index.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=6912).

Chubby muffin, that's was exactly my first idea: burn is probably the best deck since there is a burn card in every single set. However your build is not legal, since you must have 14 basic lands, because you have to have exactly 1 card from each set.

This actually would suck. Playing only 14 Lands forces you to play acceleration -> e.g. the Mirrodin card is a Talisman and not a useful card.

This makes controlish decks very weak, because you can't play expensive spells with only 14 lands.

14 basic lands

Reprocess it.

@Maveric: I think his deck is legal in the aforementioned "New York Highlander" format.
@Windux: there's this little thing called nonbasics, they're quite important in "my" History format. ;)

This is hard... would the following work? It's just a start, you can see where this is going...

Underground Sea (Alpha)

Volcanic Island (Revised)
Polluted Delta (Onslaught)
Mountain (Arabian Nights)

Rite of Flame (Coldsnap)
Cabal Ritual (Torment)
Dark Ritual (4th)
Desperate Ritual (Champions of Kamigawa, is this more important than SDT?)
Manamorphose (Shadowmoor)
Seething Song (9th)
Simian Spirit Guide (Planar Chaos)

Lotus Petal (Tempest, is this more important than Meditate/Intuition?)
Chrome Mox (Mirrodin)
Mox Diamond (Stronghold)
Lion's Eye Diamond (Mirage)
Urza's Bauble (5th)

Silence (M10)
Orim's Chant (Planeshift)
Duress (7th)

Lim-Dul's Vault (Alliances)
Merchant Scroll (Homelands)
Brainstorm (Mercadian Masques)
Portent (Ice Age)

Mystical Tutor (6th)
Infernal Tutor (Dissension)
Ad Nauseum (Shards of Alara)
Ill-Gotten Gains (Urza's Saga)
Doomsday (Weatherlight, will this work without Meditate?)

Tendrils of Agony (Scourge)
Empty the Warrens (Time Spiral)

Well, you're following the rules for deck construction. But I doubt that deck would ever run correctly. Dunno. Doomsday also has a reprint, if you wanted something else from WL.

About the very first list, clutch of the undercity looks like a great card and I see no Ravnica card in your list (oh just seen it : the ravland which you could/should remove).

Meh. I like my manabase (like, really really like it) and I have enough tutor action going on as it is. But I will keep it in mind if necessary.
