Priority

If I'm at one life, with a sudden shock in hand and a player plays a vulshok sorcerer (a tim with haste), can I sudden shock the thing before it kills me? Or do I die? More generally, when do players have to pass priority?

It depends, against any good player, no. I'll maybe find the rules if you need it (don't have time), but whenever a spell/ability resolves, the owner of that spell/ability recieves priority again. So what happens is they play their stinger, it resolves, comes into play, and that player still has priority, at which point they can activate the ability before you shock the guy.

If he plays it and activates it before doing anything else then you die. However if he plays it then plays something else, or passes the turn/phase, then you can kill it.
