View Full Version : A good trade?

I've come across a recent deal involving the following cards
My:
Bloodstained Mire
Windswept Heath
For:
4 Chalice of the Void
2 Pithing Needle
Is this a good trade? I ask this because of the price trends fetchlands seem to follow. Their growth rate is almost a linear increase as the years pass by.
Thanks ahead of time.
Fetchlands will probably dip in the next few months as Extended rotates (if it hasn't already).
EDIT: I retract my statement. Fetchlands are infy! Keep them. (I'm bias towards MTGO prices, and they are tanking hardcore on MTGO)

they will tank irl too.
its only natural if only 2 formats will use them instead of 3... prices will drop.
just look at wrath of god.

I think that they will dip, then climb, like revised duals. Even at their current value however, Pithing needle is no joke, and might make that trade worth it anyway.

That deal seems fair from a $$$ perspective. Pithing Needle and Chalice are about $7-9 a piece online, and non-blue fetches are a little under $20 a piece, so I suppose that would be a fair trade.

I'm thinking more from a future perspective. Like what TheCramp said, there may be a possibility that the prices will rise.
What are people's opinions on the future worth of fetchlands and the trade in general considering that factor?
In regards to WoG dropping in prices, I think that is only temporary. Look at Armageddon. Though it hasn't been legal in standard or extended for years, the price still remains reasonably high. Thoughts?

Since when is Armageddon's price considered high?
Aren't they like $3?

This. They'll go down at first, when Extended players want to get rid of them and offer>demand for a while. After that, the price will rise, as interest in Legacy grows(something I believe will happen as more cards circulate out of Extended, and Wizards might give it more attention) and the cards grow older, and "rarer". Some sets will get stuck in casual player's collections (either new casual players, or former Extended or Legacy players that stop competitive Magic).

From a "rarity" perspective, fetches > Chalice + Pithing Needle by a large degree. Fetches are used in virtually every deck that support their respective colors. While Chalice and Needle are prevelant, they're primarily sideboard material (Needle especially) or need to have a dedicated deck to support them maindeck (think Stax, Stompy type decks). I'd stick with your fetches if you're thinking long-term.

In that trade I'd rather have the fetches personally. The artifacts are probably worth a bit more money right now, but the fetches are easier to trade up with, and generally easier to seal larger trades with, etc. Either way, all of those cards will see play in Legacy/Vintage for a long time to come and I can't see any of them really tanking value-wise.

Armageddons are cheap as hell, Ravages of war is like 40 bucks though.

Lemme know where you're finding those Ravages, I'd like to get some
Actually, it's weird. I'm the other party in this trade, for the record. The reason I declined the original offer is because my plans with the fetches were to turn around and trade them away for my current wants. And of course, fetches are taking a little dip in price right now. Contextually, it would not have made sense for me to go forward with the trade. I dunno, I'll still want to mull over it.

i gotta ask what makes ravages of war so desirable (and pricey) over armageddon? there both sorcerys that essentially do the same thing for the exact same color cost?

Rarity. Ravages is identical to Armageddon, but awesome in that it dodges meddling mage and therapy style antics while allowing you to run 5-6 geddon effects. But Ravages was only printed in Portal 3 Kingdoms, Armageddon was printed in more sets.

It's not only the rarity, but the demand. Ravages is not only played in almost every deck that would run Armageddon, but is also a card collectors love to own. More and more people also seem to be building p3k sets.

what do you mean by p3k?
i guess that makes sense to have 8 geddon effects in 1 deck and going around meddling mage.

The Portal series came out with 3 sets, the third of which was 3 Kingdoms. It had a Chinese history theme to it.
