HI GUYS

So, I was wondering if anyone has had success at using this feller in 1.5:

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y37/Laguna_Loire/Jace_Beleren_small.jpg

To me, he seems like a bad Ophidian that is legendary, can be attacked, cannot block for you, cannot kill small creatures, cannot deal damage to an opponent, has a third ability that's pretty irrelevant versus a 60 card deck or in a deck that doesn't try to win by milling (lol), and may let your opponent draw cards unless you only plan on drawing three off him over the course of three turns.....

SO maybe I'm wrong, someone enlighten me or confirm what I already believe.

Basically it is, if you have your deck built to deal with creatures. E. g. - landstill. Not only that, but I actually won games off his ultimate.

Edit: if you hook up deckcheck: http://www.deckcheck.net/list.php?main=Jace+Beleren you'll notice that Landstill is the only Legacy deck that plays it anyway.

Personally i feel that fact or fiction is much better in landstill than jace beleren. It lets you dig 5 cards down in 1 go, usually i do it at the end of their turn, either forcing a counter or getting stuff i want. Fact or fiction gets you what you want, and filters out all the shit that doesn't matter in the current game state. With jace though you get 1 card per turn and the game might be over by the time you get 3 cards down for that wrath of god or blue card to pitch to force of will. I play without sensei's divining top however which is probably why i am against jace. I think that if you're playing a faster version of landstill, the version that runs sensei's top, jace is good as sensei's top filters as jace draws the cards floating to the top. Then again, I'm not sure if dedicating 1 land per turn for sensei's top is really the best thing for landstill.

Jace can be ok but as a draw engine in legacy there are just better options than both jace and ophidian. I think the top contenders would have to be intuition/ak, ancestral visions, thirst for knowledge and maybe fact or fiction although fact or fiction in my view doesn`t really compete with the same slots as the others because its used much later. Figuring out which engine to use is very dependant on the build of control that you run. As a general rule control decks tend to use one set of slots for finding quick answers and use a more powerful but slower draw engine as a supplement which tends to give you the best of both worlds. Personally I think sensei`s divining top with fact is pretty strong.

I use him in my Stasis deck to feed Forsaken Citys and finish the game.

I run him in my landstill build when I'm expecting more blue in my meta.

Look up The EPIC Control (TEC). It may give you some ideas.

I'm running the man next to 2 FoFs in my landstill currently and everytime he gets to stick (which happens often) he pretty much wins the game singlehandedly. Once you get the CA machine going you'll draw enough answers to deal with anything that tries to go near him :)

A friend of mine loves stasis and decided that garruck did the job better than jace. Just sayin.

Problem with Garruk is GG in a blue heavy deck.

Jace feeds you cards. In a control deck, he lets you draw every turn. You will always draw more answers. In a landstill mirror, a jace ultimate can be a game winner.

He should not be your only draw engine, but is a house in the right deck. Don't think about what he does. Think about the CA he gives.

Which card is that in your avatar Romanus? I seem to remember the art from somewhere.

Jace is the absolute nuts if it sticks in any sort of control mirror. My brother and I make it a point to try to fit Jace as a 1-of MD or 2-of in the sideboard of any sort of blue deck just for the control match.

Jace + Top = Practicly breaking a standstill every turn. Combine that with fetches and or standstill and you have a pretty nasty draw package.

In Landstill this is my current Set up

3 top
3 still
3 bs
1 jace

Let me tell you I havent gone back since march

So does anyone have a decklist of a Jace deck that has top 8ed at a tournament with > 24 players? Hopefully a breakdown in matches as well? I kind of want to see how he does in action in legacy.

Mostly landstill, but Jace is proven, as you can see.
