Ok so I just got down to my new college in North Carolina (Catawba for those that care) and realized that the nearest shop is like and hour away. And all they have is FNM.
Seriously? What the Hell.

Anyway, if you are a magic player in NC and know of anywhere else to play (Legacy or otherwise) I'd appreciate the help.

At least you will be close enough to easily go to the Charlotte 10K.

Plus you are at a college. There must be some sort of geek club that has magic players

@Ewok: I found the list and like I said, for some reason they are all like at least 50+ min away. However, proximity to the 10k is nice.

And the issue is finding the nerd club. They aren't exactly the most social group.

LOL Maybe just wear a t-shirt with some cool card art on it: the MTG geeks will spot you and those who don't know MTG will just think "cool shirt".

To the OP, try living in a distant land like China, where Magic is nearly non-existent outside of the biggest cities.

I'm sure your student association has a list of all sanctioned clubs and groups and can give you contact info or their meeting times/places. It might not be an actual Magic/ccg/rpg club. It could just be a general Fantasy Club. At my school I think it was called the Storyteller's Guild. If there isn't a school sactioned club, consider starting one. I don't think it's that hard. If neither of those work, it's a college campus. There's probably at least a couple magic players there. Put up flyers looking for people. Put out little signals that you play the game so other players can identify you and talk to you. Put a sticker on a binder or patch on a bag. If you're really ambitious, goldfish storm combo in the student union between classes.

LOL, yeah, get an M10 sticker... they'll probably think it's some rap group like D12.

Sad face for Jeff :P Just text me whenever you want to play some MWS. Shouldn't have moved away now, should you :P

Also Bryant, he only likes partying out of that list, which he did while still being able to play magic. So it is basically what he had before, minus magic. Very sad...

What you need to do is find a directory of extracurricular clubs and show up to the roleplaying club meeting. Prime trading grounds as well, it's a slaughterhouse.

This is true. My best trade ever was with a kid from the gaming group at school:

My 4x Flood Plain

His 4x Flooded Strand

He didn't want to pay the life.

(BTW, this was well before I knew how good this trade actually was - right as I returned to Magic from a 3 year hiatus)

Thanks for the advice guys.
Also, Brad, I doubt there will be much of the aforementioned partying here.
But I can dream

Honestly just have fun at college, its good times, don't be an asshole, act decent to people, and you get invited to parties. Really that simple. There are a shitton more parties going on than you think, just look around. I totally agree with starting some kind of Magic group but the problem is you get the casual players and combo .... just isn't fair :) If you don't want to start a Magic club, go check out Anime club, D&D, or some other kind of roleplaying club. Magic players in there somewhere!

Your college's home page should have a list of clubs and organizations somewhere on it. This is what ours (http://www.behrend.psu.edu/student/groups/GroupsContacts.htm) looks like, for reference. It helps to find some people in the student union or something, so when you want to join the officers can put a face with a name, but you could email first to find where everybody gathers.

Also, as an officer in Behrend's Gamers' Club for three years, let me tell you that the officers fucking hate freeloaders. We have monthly Gamers' Nights while school is in session, where we reserve the auditorium in the student union building and fill it with video/board/card games (plus there's usually some Masquerade or D&D going in one corner), and there are a lot of people who will show up just to eat when they see us go on a pizza run. They don't even come in and play games and make friends; they just scarf the food.

As a freshman it should be cool for you to just show up a few times to get to know people, but respond when you're asked and be willing to put forth some ideas, maybe offer to run some Magic events next semester or next year when you're a little more comfortable with your surroundings. You don't even necessarily have to contribute materially to the club or do anything else grandiose, but make sure you care about the club as a whole and not just about your own fun, you know?
For instance, a couple of us who actually play in tournaments gathered giant piles of our extra commons and uncommons and threw them in a five-row in club storage. We've been known to shuffle up a giant pile of cards, deal them face-down into stacks of 45, and do commons-box drafts. One time a pack of fifteen randomized cards had ten Woodwraith Stranglers in it, which was a little awkward, but they're usually pretty fun.

Im a sophmore just fyi but yeah, I dropped a line to the RP club head so hopefully they have some cool people. If not, I still get the legacy 5k in a month

Should have stayed at Rose. Few chicks, but more parties, alcohol, AND magic. :P

I know how you feel. Round here in Boulder Magic isn't very big, and those that play usually play type 2 or draft. My Cube group is in PA, and I've never really found a play to play Legacy in ether philly or Boulder. Sadly, the only magic cards I brought with me were Merfolks, my cube and a shity Kithkin deck. Sad faces all around.

Haha, I was nice and didn't get invited to one party ever. Actually, I guess that's not funny...

I played magic the whole time I was in college, and still had time for all of this. It can be done!
