Just an old deck of mine I stumbled upon just now and is looking to update. The basic premise is a Fish deck of sorts who just happens to pack both CounterTop and the possibly clunkiest 2cc card advantage engine around (albeit once it gets going it's rather.. spectacular). Good fun.
// Lands
2 [9E] Island (1)
1 [IN] Plains (3)
4 [ON] Polluted Delta
4 [B] Tundra
4 [ON] Flooded Strand
2 [TSP] Flagstones of Trokair
// Creatures
2 [TSP] Serra Avenger
2 [CS] Jotun Grunt
4 [TSB] Auratogtogtogtogtogtogtogtog
1 [OD] Auramancer
4 [UL] Mother of Runes
// Spells
3 [CHK] Sensei's Divining Top
3 [U] Swords to Plowshares
3 [LRW] Oblivion Ring
4 [CS] Counterbalance
4 [CS] Perilous Research
4 [GP] Hatching Plans
4 [FNM] Brainstorm
4 [AL] Force of Will
1 [TSP] Spirit Loop
Suspicious cards breakdown:
Auratog: Basically a sac outlet for Hatching Plans that just happens to beat for 3 pretty reliably and gets rid of superflous Counterbalances nicely. Can go tricky with Oblivion Ring (sac it with the first ability on the stack to remove a nonland permanent permanently as well as the +2/+2).
Hatching Plans: Not "the" 2cc card engine by any stretch, but it has its advantages. Unlike Standstill it can be cast on a neutral to unfavorable board position, and it dissuades people from sweeping the board with Deed/EE@2.
Perilious Research: Ironically, as far as Instant blue 2cc card draw comes this is about as good as it gets (imo only slightly worse than Accumulated Knowledge in a Vaccuum). Choice things to sacrifice to it includes Hatching Plans, Flagstones of Trokair, Oblivion Ring with the first ability on the stack, extra lands and just about anything about to be targetted by any form of removal. Also it just so happens to be tech versus opposing Oblivion Rings. Rawr.
Auramancer: Probably in place of the 4th Oblivion Ring. Good, versatile mid to -lategame card advantage on a stick.
Spirit Loop: Allows Auratog to race in the lategame and whilst unspectacular is never -that- dead beforehand. Can also somewhat remedy the early game lack of pressure in an ideal world.
Sideboard?: Bluh. Probably contains the 4th Oblivion Ring, 4xRelics of Progenitus and some Meddling Mages and/or Dazes to nail that storm combo MU.
Not tier 1 material obviously, but it does work somehow and can get the edge versus opposing CounterTop decks thanks to MD O. Ring and the 5th Balance-by-Auramancer factor. Opinions?
