Blade of the Bloodchief :1:

Artifact - Equipment Rare

Whenever a creature is put into a graveyard from the battlefield,
put a +1/+1 counter on equipped creature.
If equipped creature is a Vampire, put two +1/+1 counters on it instead.

Equip :1:

So I think this could get an interesting new equipment.
Could this be any good in legacy - especially in decks playing Trinket Mage?
Maybe as an addition in merfolk sideboards to fight decks burning down their creatures?
Also it's quite tech with mutavault.

Discuss, don't discard.

If you blow up multiple creatures at the same time and also destroy the equipment itself with a Pernicious Deed, you still get the +1/+1 counters, right? It seems reasonable in any deck that supports Trinket Mage. However, I don't think it's quite good enough to make a slot. All it really does is let your creature win an otherwise tied battle. There's not enough immediate effect, and all the bonus is lost when the creature in question dies. It's completely worse than Umezawa's Jitte. The only advantage is that it is tutorable with the mage, but I don't think that any decks that use mage would want this.

It's worse than Jitte in decks looking to dress up their guys. Jitte also kills things and gains you life in addition to growing the equipped creature.

What Trinket Mage decks would want this over, say, finding a Grindstone and winning? Faerie Stompy played Chalice the last time I checked, so this is a no-go.

Simply put, an equipment that doesn't buff your creature immediately and doesn't pass its buff along to other creatures is probably bad. In many cases, I'd rather have Leonin Scimitar than this (at least it does something when it comes out).

Hey now, it *might* have a chance in limited.

Hey now, it combos with Godhead of Awe and Triskelion to kill all creatures without shroud. Sounds like excellent EDH fodder to me.

Mephidross Vampire does that for one mana cheaper (and only BB instead of (W/U)x5) with Trike.

But what if I'm not in black, huh? WHAT THEN?!

Well, if you're already in UW, you should probably splash black for Demonic Tutor, Identity Crisis, and...um....Vampiric Tutpor and Mind Twist! And Phryexian Arena and Vindicate! And Mortify! Yeah, that's what then!

And then splash green for Tooth and Nail. And then you have to add All Suns' Dawn, cause that card is ridiculous.

Does very little very late. It can be fetched by Trinket, but Sigil of Distinction can be fetched too and is a better card overall.

...in EDH? Since when did Ith or Space Pope have black or green in their costs?

Sadistic Glee at twice the cost. I would pick it in limited because I remember how stupid was that aura, but it doesn't cut the mustard in constructed unless there's a Serrated biskelion/triskelion or something and even then it's not a very good combo.

Standard crap.

Affinity is the only place for it, it's interesting with moduler, but Cranial Plating is just way more busted.

Could be very good in standard, but overall underwhelming otherwise. This in a vamp deck is nasty though. I was testing that the other day. Absolutely vicious.

I would be happier if the card was spoiled this way instead. Putting counters directly on the creature sucks. If they remove it you just have to restart the process again.

I had the exact same reaction. I really think that difference would have made this card playable, but also probably broken.

Agreed. If you could just drop it turn one and then kill guys to pump it, there would at least be potential. Having to get a creature down and then start over every time they it is way too much on top of it having no synergy with StP/Path and being a horrific topdeck.
