Imperial Mask declares that its controller cant be target of spells or abilities.

owner of that card casts Stroke of Genius in attempt to kill me.

I play Commandeer, targeting the Stroke, and i want to choose new target - owner of Imperial Mask.

I am not targeting that player directly, wording on Commandeer is "Choose new targets".

What will happen?

a) Commandeer will resolve and stroke will kill my opponent, because the player was chosen as new target, but not directly (similar as with mass effects)
b) Commandeer will resolve but stroke will be countered due illegal target
c) Commandeer cannot be played this way, because i cannot declare that player as target.

ok, i have the answer.

If the spell is commandeered i can choose only legal target. Player with Imperial Mask cannot be legal target in this case.

But if the spell which i will command will target only opponents (something like "target opponent discard X cards") the spell will be countered, because if i control it i am no longer opponent and i am also illegal target.

commandeer and most similar spells say you may choose new targets. if there are no legal targets to change to then you can't change the target. i'm not sure what happens if you commandeer something that targets an opponent like duress.

What Offler said.

Also, you guys need to watch your grammar/capitalization.

I am not from english speaking country, so excuse my grammar. :) I'll do my best to write the message, but it can't be flawless at this time.

Targeting opponents:
If player with Imperial Mask will cast Cruel Edict, trying to force me to sacrifice a creature, and i respond with Commandeer, the Edict will be countered, even if i keep myself as a target, because Commandeer says that i am the controler of the "stolen" Edict, and i cannot be opponent to myself :).
