As many of you might know already the new dark depths combo is pretty sweet. So i went looking through the usual online stores that come up on google to find dark depths. A lot of them are out of stock at this time. So were left with ebay. the price for dark depths is something like 5 bucks on average at current listings. now like last year with grindstone combo, this seems very similar they were starting at 5 bucks then sky rocketed to 30. do you think were gunna see the same thing happen with dark depths?

It seems plausible as the card has often been ignored and reduced to the realm of casual players up until now.

No. The combo is way too easy to disrupt.

I doubt this will be even remotely close to the spike of Natural Order when Progenitus was printed. Sure it will go up a little, but not much, the "combo" is too easily disrupted and answered. It will see play, no doubt about that, but it isn't going to be great, average at best. Maybe Depths will hit ... 12-15$ max, no way it will go higher.

I just picked up 12 of these in a $1 bin at a shop. I think 4 or 5 of them were in my bulk I sold them. (LOL)

but do you think theres possibility of shortage of them to warrent a price spike of any kind? this is one of those cards no one gave a shit about and threw it to the side.

There is no shortage. Your basing your claims off the fact that your local shops don't have them. My shops all have way too many, which I suspect is the case in most places. I highly doubt that they will ever go over $5.

Ya but won't the extended players go crazy for it?

I would guess that the price spike is not (at least fully) due to the Hexmage combo, but also due to the fact that Dark Depths is the sort of "cool" Timmy card that appeals to casual players. In the same way you might not find any value at all in Coat of Arms or Browbeat, but they go for a bit more than similarly weak cared because of casual appeal.

Grindstone didn't really have the same sort of Timmy appeal. It's price spike was purely Legacy driven.

I may have to wait a wile to play this combo the sharks certainly cleaned out the more common online watering holes, if they had any to spare in the first place.

Are you guys really going to use the too easy to disrupt excuse for dark depths being bad?

Painter/Grindstone seems pretty easy to disrupt. Most of the same cards that stop that combo will also stop dark depths. Does that stop painter grindstone from being viable? Nope.

Painter/Grindstone has the ability to beat your opponent in a single turn similar to a 20/20 indestructible flyer.

wasn't there a card from Shadowmoor that let you move all counters from one permanent to another? It was an Instant I think. If that didn't spike Dark Depths then why would Hexmage?

there was Aether Snap from Darksteel, but i think the fact that the Hexmage is :b: :b: makes it viable.
