***The Source: your source for (no longer) secret techz***

This is (no doubt 'bout this) the best Legacy forum ever. The average level is pretty high, as for average I mean there are players like me which aren't at the same rank as others, otherwise the level would be even higher. I personally like (and enjoy) when people play unknown cards, and win because of them. Many times these cards are 1-2 ofs: some are used in the sb, some are maindeck. I really like the idea of a card which turns the table just because my opponent doesn't expect it. It happened to me more than a time.

Playing Angel Stompy
I was tired of being shut down by a single Counterbalance, so I decided to play Patrician's Scorn in the sb as a 1-of. Heck, I wrecked Counter/Top, Dutch Stax, and I even played against Enchantress in the quarters. With 4x Cataclysm + this crappy card, the match was quite easy. Tech of the day FTW.

Another time, the meta was supposed to be full of ThreshThreshThreshThreshThresh decks. I sneaked Crackdown maindeck as a 2x. I finished 7th, crushed by a Landstill deck, but in the other matchups, Crackdown was a pretty effective card!!!

Playing Dragon Stompy
Needless to say, this deck can't be teched *a lot* due to the lack of a draw engine and/or cantrip. But I like the idea of having a dumb 1-of maindeck. Here comes the Ingot Chewer. Killing Dreadnoughts/Moxen and random junk is always good. I run 1x maindeck plus 1x sb. Against Stax, I started recurring Chewer with SoLaS (this happened g2, 'cause I play SoLaS in the sb) and literally crushed my opponent. He didn't draw a single white mana, except for Flagstones of Trokair, which was under my equipped Magus. I destroyed all of his Moxen, and my opponent couldn't play a single spell. I was lucky. But this isn't even the best thing about Chewer. Playing against Dreadstill, went second. He plays Volcanic, go. I try a first turn Magus, with SSG backup (in case of Daze), he Forces. He realizes I play Dragon Stompy, so he lands a second turn 'Nought thinking I couldn't answer it. I took 12, then drew Chewer, and killed his Dreadnought. I landed a Chalice @1, and won.

Playing with my friend's URG Fish deck
This isn't a "tech", it's just an interesting move I made. My friend's deck didn't play Lightning Bolt. I insisted to play 4x Bolt and 1x Tarfire maindeck. I was playing against Gobs. Opponent at 16. I played nonbasics in the first few turns, but suddenly my opponent started to Wasteland me to death. I had 1 Volcanic and an Island, with Goyf on the field. He tried to Waste (a third time) my Volc, I played Tarfire in response (opponent at 14), then tapped my Island for :u:, returned my Volc to hand with a Daze and payed for it with the mana in pool. I saved my Volc and fed my Goyf (fromt 6/7 to 7/8). 2 turns later I win, despite the card disadvantage. That Volc was precious, as I succesfully played Pyroclasm and won thereafter.

More of my useless techs (I have these decks only on the MWS, I own Angel/Dragon Stompy IRL):

-Gigadrowse in ANT
-Old Man of the Sea in Surviving Bant
-Plague Boiler in Landeed
-Path to Exile in my UW fish sb. I run Meddling Mage and StP maindeck. If my opponent runs StP, too, I switch 'em with Path and can name StP with MM^^
-Eyes of the Wisent in Zoo
-Infernal Tutor in Etherium Affinity

...and more to come. I'm a terrible player, so I wanted to listen to better players (which isn't a hard goal to achieve) who wanted to share their weird mb/sb techs. Stop reading!!! What is yours?

I am running Primal Command + Eternal Witness in the Sideboard of my Aggro Loam. I board in the Witness in some matchups where I need some life gain, more threats or more redundancy and use Burning Wish to grab the Primal Command. I get 7 life and search for the Witness, getting back the Primal Command and netting me another 7 life while putting an opponent's land on top. This works quite well to stabilize against burn in combination with a Chalice or to prevent aggressive decks from top decking lethal burn if you got some time to pull this off. Both cards aren't terrible on their own either and Witness with Volrath's Stronghold is a beating.

I overall had some issues on secret techs on tournaments, when i played Mono B Pox last year i played necroplasms on the sideboard against aggro/weenie decks or combodecks with empty the warrens.

Also i had Goblin Tinkerer on my UGR Countertop build which hits so many stuff, i also wanted to board telepathy for countertop decks but never had the final space for them even when they performed excellent.

I have had quite my share in tech with my Vintage decks but this being a Legacy forum and all I'll share those stories.

The most techy thing I have done was probably maindecking a Boartusk Liege in my Goblins build to combat Firespout and Tempo Thresh. I was playing against Skeggi in a tournament and this happened: I had a couple of Goblins on board among them a Lackey and Piledriver and had him on a two turn clock. I knew he had Firespout maindeck so I played my Matron before combat, he had a fist full of counters and let it resolve, Lackey then put Liege into play and he was stuck with like 3 counters + Firespout and my Liege was able to go the distance.

I also maindeck Relic of Progenitus in Goblins which is quite out of the box and board in Anarchy to solve my problems against Landstill and Enchantress (credit to GreenOne for this one though).

Yeah, that sucked, lol. Boartusk Liege is the bomb. I really didn't see that one coming. That mistake had cost me top4.

- RGBSA with 4 Veteran Explorer. My tech against aggro is Primal Command SB

- Aluren with 4 Swords to Plowshares. My last SB tech is Ęther Vial

I used to main deck 2 propaganda's in landstill a while back when I knew there was going to be a lot of ichorid. I faced ichorid 3 times and made top 8 by stealing almost every game 1.

I played perish as a 3 of in my SB when I played RB Goblins in a MTGSalvation tourney. First two pairings were an elephant stompy deck and combo elves. I heard that 20 for 1 is a good deal.

Not actually legacy tech but do to a tip I got from ELD, I run a set of Tarmogoyfs in my Bloodghast Dredge's sideboard in Vintage.

jthanatos will love this:

Secretestestest tech of all time:
Luminesce

My friend, Jim, was playing a black/white jank deck running 1x Luminesce main deck against some sort of Intuition+Lava Dart+Wee Dragonauts combo. He took the pokes from the Lava Darts and then played Luminesce for the big scary Wee Dragonauts. Next turn, Dragonauts ate a Swords and Jim wins again (probably through Order of the Ebon Hand...did you know it has pro-white? It cannot be Swords'ed AND Jotun Grunt cannot block it. MORE TECH!)

I'm not claiming to be an excellent player, but I've had some success with seemingly random cards in various decks.

When I first built Geddon Stax, I ran a single Cataclysm. It was mostly against faster aggro, but keeping a 3Sphere/Crucible, Magus of the Tabernacle, a Plains and a Ghostly Prison is pretty mean. It's been dropped though.

Like TheChubbyMuffin, I had 3 Perish SB in my Rb Goblins deck. Steamrolled over Elves and it helped vs NO Survival (Goyf, Qasali Pridemage, BoP, Progenitus, etc all green).

One time for fun I ran a Survival deck with Umbral Mantle as a three of. Made Rofellos huge and could also make infinite mana, so I was able to abuse Masticore more and I ran a copy of Feral Hydra for lawls.
