This deck tries to layer a snazzy combo finish on top of everyone's favorite soft-lock: counter/top. First off, the combo:

2x Sensei's Divining Top + Etherium Sculptor = arbitrarily large storm

With this as our win condition (a la brain freeze), I threw together some preexisting counter/top tech and added the combo in.

Counterspells (13)
4 Counterbalance
4 Force of Will
3 Daze
2 Spell Snare

Draw/Tutor (11)
4 Brainstorm
2 Ponder
3 Predict
2 Trinket Mage

Combo (12)
4 Sensei's Divining Top
3 Etherium Sculptor
2 Helm of Awakening
3 Brain Freeze

Random Goodness (1)
1 Pithing Needle

Land (23)
19 Island
4 Polluted Strand

Predict: good synergy with brainstorm and SDT, but also mills 1, which is neat if your opponent is using academy ruins to not deck himself.

Helm of Awakening: same function as Etherium Sculptor, lowers cc of SDT to zero.

Rest of the deck is pretty straight-forward... solid counter magic package with a combo that uses part of counter/top and rewards you for drawing that 2nd SDT.

resolved creatures seem to hurt. like, turn 1 dude seems like gg if you have no force.

Yeah, i would suggest shackles to fix that. Assuming your not playing goblins and it was a lacky, you can shackle the critter, and force them to drop 2 more creatures down to start winning again. Of course you out right lose to dredge but so does half the format.

I suggest taking a MUC list, and adding in your combo idea to that.

I remember seeing this deck in Extended for a bit - what about changing the Helms out for Artificer's Intuition and Locket of Yesterdays? Not positively affecting your opponent seems strong, though I guess it doesn't make a difference how much you're helping your opponent if you're soft-locking him with Counterbalance.

The combo is something like ten times better when you add in Future Sight, as it lets you draw your entire library. Just something to think about...

I have other suggestions, but I'm not sure how useful they'd be, since they would basically come from the time when I used to play Countertop, which obviously isn't the same deck, and that was a long time ago. Only thing I know for sure is that 23 lands is way too much for the curve you have going.

I suppose you need Stifle for Gaea's Blessing.

And some sort to prevent resolved creatures from smashing your face in.
And some kind of tutor.

Gosh, it's a 4 card combo. Do you really think this works?

I will never understand why people keep on designing combos that involve more than 2 cards while Painter's Stone is still available.
