I am no expert on how the foils are produced. but from what i can see with my own eye is ftv foils compared to a foil u pull from a pack of magic cards in a regular set are different.

I want to say what ever the foil material is that wizards uses it seems like a double use of it in the ftv foils.

If anything out of personal preference some of these ftv foils don't look very nice when stacked next to the foil u pull from a booster pack. with the booster pack foils pending on when they were made some get just foil highlights in either the border or in both pieces of the artwork and the border. What i find disliking about the ftv foils is you don't get that specifically located highlighting in different parts of the cards. some of them are just highlighted top to bottom and very shinny nothing really artistic to the foiling. cards like divining top, gifts ungiven, or trinisphere are best examples. however compared to the ones that had the new artwork had artistically placed highlights for various color effects placed through out the cards. again this is only personal observation.

I am curious if anyone else sort of feels these ftv foils are just crappy for any general reason?

Clicky (http://www.wizards.com/magic/tcg/productarticle.aspx?x=mtg/tcg/ftvexiled/productinfo).

Each card has been printed using a foil process unique to the From the Vault series.

From the Vault: Dragons was the first to be printed this way: clicky (http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtgcom/feature/469b).

they're printed on a foil stock that is twice as reflective, and treated with a varnish that gives them a very unique look

I guess if you don't like them, that only indicates they're awesome.

Having opened one FTV: Exiled so far for playing purposes (still trying to find three more for a semi-reasonable price), the foils themselves feel flimsy compared to normal cards and foils. Almost like the stock is thinner.
