View Full Version : Play area map?

So I've seen plenty of threads start up about people trying to find places to play at in *Name of area here*. I'm wondering if there's any feasible way to try to map out all of the places in, let's say the US for now, that hold Legacy tournaments.

I think it would be awesome if we would be able to get some sort of interactive map, similar to google maps going where people could edit in where the store/ tournament center they play at is and how often that place holds tournaments. Maybe color coded for frequency and make it similar to a "here's where sprint covers in the US" type of thing but with legacy.

I know there's a "Find FNM near you" button on WotC website, but I'd really like to see some sort of map with "Legacy hotspots" on it, where you can zoom in and click on the store near your location.

Has this been done? Is there something readily available where this can happen, sort of like a wiki? Is there any interest at all in this other than myself?

We have one of those. Hasn't gotten much use and some of the data might be out of date. Let me see if I can find it.

Nice, this is pretty close to what I wanted. Should help in deciding where to go for grad school . I suppose there is no simple way of getting more tournament sites put up there? Sadly, the number of Source people doesn't really correspond to the number of tournaments held in a place.

I'm sure there are more tournament sites than just this.

If you want it for those express purposes, your best bets for "Good Grad Schools for Big Legacy" are:

Somewhere in Upstate NY (Syracuse University, Clarkson, Binghamton, RIT, etc)
Somewhere in Northern Virginia (VT, William & Mary, GMU, etc)
Somewhere in Massachusetts (UMass, MIT, Northeastern, etc - there's a million)
Somewhere in SoCal (San Diego State, UCSD, etc)
Somewhere in the Northern Mid-West (Michigan State, anything near Chicago, etc.)

If you want to study in Canada, choose Montreal!

He lies, there are no Legacy places in SoCal. There is an emerging Legacy hub at a store called Knight Ware in Los Angeles though.

Yeah, I honestly didn't know about SoCal, but I always hear about there being a San Diego scene, so I figured I'd put it out there. YMMV.

There are is a small weekly tournament there, but the bigger SoCal tournies are at Knight Ware, although those aren't comparable to the rest of the United States.

If you care about Legacy, and that is a huge factor for your college, SoCal might not be the best place for you, although the more people that play legacy down here, the higher chances there are of larger tournaments.

We need to get ChannelFireball to do Legacy 5k's like Starcity does...

Monster Den is my favorite place to play in the Minneapolis area. This is a link of the schedule if anyone is interested.

Necroing this because I wanted to check the map again and the link is broken.

Does anyone have any more up to date map of places where Legacy is popular?
