View Full Version : [DECK] Parlor Tricks - Legacy Edition

Parlor Tricks is a deck archetype in the Pauper format. It usually is about controlling the early game via disruption and slowly wilting away your opponent's life late game. It is mostly designed to take on an aggro-oriented meta with enough disruption to deal with some combo.

Since Legacy is very aggro-oriented right now, why not try porting the principles of the deck into Legacy.

Anyways, this is my experimental build that I want to develop:


4x Island
4x Swamp
4x Mountain
6x Fetches
2x U/B dual
2x U/R dual
1x B/R dual

(Mana base definitely needs help)

3x Chrome Mox - Accelerator (perhaps)

4x Ravenous Rats - Discard that can be replayed with the help of Ninja (Could be Spellstutter Sprite for counters)
4x Flametongue Kavu - Nice come into play ability that can be replayed with the help of Ninja (Could be Shriekmaw)
3x Dimir Infiltrator - Uncounterable toolbox (except for Stifle but no-one runs that in my area), he can also be an unblockable creature for Ninja, FoW fodder
3x Ninja of the Deep Hours - Good card advantage
2x Nucklavee - He returns spells (could be Izzet Chronarch because he costs less to cast), can also be a finisher and replayed with the help of Ninja, FoW fodder
2x Mulldrifter - Draws cards and can wear boots, can be replayed with Ninja 4x Innocent Blood - Kills aggro decks (could be Duress depending on the matchups)


3x Force of Will - Counter something problematic. Only 3 because of low blue count
3x Lightning Bolt - For the reach
1x Death Denied - Recurs creatures that I need (i might use something else for this), fetchable with Infiltrator
1x Diabolic Edict - Gets rid of that problematic creature, fetchable with Infiltrator
1x Echoing Truth - Temporary solution, gets rid of tokens, fetchable with Infiltrator
1x Rolling Thunder - Mass removal/reach for the win, fetchable with Infiltrator
1x Shattering Spree - Just in case artifact hate
1x Shred Memory - See Infiltrator, Gravehate perhaps?, fetchable with Infiltrator
1x Terminate - Gets rid of that problematic creature, fetchable with Infiltrator

Sideboard: I need ideas

As you can see, it is a quasi-toolbox designed to take on an aggro-oriented meta.

It is just on its beginning stages and lacks playtesting (because I have been busy with work)

I don't even know where to begin.
Many of your choices are horrible, and a lot of the numbers are simply wrong.

Why no brainstorm/ponder?
3 FOrce? Thats just wrong.
No consistancy in the list... Propably not a good idea.

Rework your manabase big-time. If you want to play 3 colors in legacy, why on earth would you not play about 8-10 duals? Afraid of wasteland? A horrible manabase makes you lose a lot more games.

All your creatures except perhaps ninja are very bad in legacy. PLay efficient creatures that kill your opponent, and stop playing things like nucklevee, infiltrator and rats. Also; kavu is not that good. It does not kill goyf or mongoose...

As I see your deck, it loses horribly to almost all kinds of combo and control. And I really don't see you having a good matchup against aggro.
Looking at the list, it looks like you haven't played legacy for the last 2½ years...

Just because something works in a soapbox derby it does not mean you can go to Formula I or Nascar with it...

Pauper =/= Legacy and I don't even anything even remotely competive in that deck. Not even a base to suggest changes except changing the whole deck into something else.
