View Full Version : My friends were dropped on their heads as babies.

I finally talked one of my friends, who will be known from here on as Sean, to play Legacy. When he asked what the top tier decks looked like, after he considered it "too much work" to read stuff here on the source, i jokingly told him about this old DTB combo deck with this awesome card, that plummeted in price after choice bannings, and he decided to inquire further into this "Thunder Bluffs Didgeridoo Combo Deck of WIN" as he refers to it now, and decided that it was budgety and looked fun. Now, I've been trying to talk him out of this for ~2 weeks (He's running 2 MD Chars for removal, various other failures) with no success. Should I let him become the laughingstock of the awesome and huge Jersey Shore Legacy Scene?
EDIT: this is the list he plans to buy; I don't know what his SB looks like.
4 Anaba Ancestor
4 Anaba Spirit Crafter
2 Karplusan Minotaur
4 Kazuul Warlord
4 Ruinous Minotaur
2 Tahngarth, Talruum Hero
4 Taurean Mauler
2 Char
4 Desperate Ritual
4 Didgeridoo
4 Lightning Bolt
2 Barbarian Ring
20 Mountain

Awesome list. He'd do great with it. The 2 Chars are TECH.

I'd actually cut a Desperate Ritual for a 3rd Char, to improve the lategame.

Is there ANYWHERE I can point him for a similarly cheap deck that's not so... Pathetic?
EDIT: outside of Type 2.
LED-Less Dredge maybe? My MD cost me a total of 120€.
I heard Enchantress isn't that expensive, too. As long as he doesn't run Moat...

Tried Enchantress. He wants something "different than what he plays in Type 2" (That's right; he plays W/u Enchantress in T2, though I came up with the list and am quite proud of it)

Why switch decks? This deck is a great metagame call. He might need to pack 4 Sirocco in the SB though. It has no chance winning against Spring Tide otherwise.

Monored goblins costs nothing except for the wastelands, drivers and lackeys.
Dragon Stompy costs even less :)
Merfolk?

Ports are Expensive for Goblins too.
DS is a pain in the ass, because nobody wants to trade their CoT's.
Don't you be dissing Merfolk; calling them budget and whatnot. Besides, you get really bored with Legacy if all you play is mono-blue fishies.
EDIT: okay, here's his SB
4 Pyrostatic Pillar
3 Relic of Progenitus
3 Shattering Spree
3 Tormod's Crypt
2 Warmonger
looks like he almost listened to me about something, but damn that's a lot of grave hate.
Nobody plays Goblins with Ports nowadays. Or, at least, few people do.

I guess Warren Instigator really did change the game. Lol.
Scenario 2: Dude X, here out known as Tom, wants to play Affinity as his primary deck. What should I do about this, and is there a "good" Affinity list?

Affinity was really nerfed with the combat rules changes ni M10. It really brought the power level down since you can't do most of the combat tricks that made Affinity tricky to deal with. However, it's still a great starter deck that can pull out wins on the back of Cranial Plating or Ravager/Disciple. IIRC, the OP of the Affinity thread has the basic decklist.

People are stupid. You should let them play whatever they want. I learned a long time ago that the only way to make people start listening and reading and wanting to improve their game is to crush them, endlessly, mercilessly, and repeatedly, until they want to get better just to beat you one solid time. I now dread facing my team more than anyone else in a tournament.
I think if the bros on Jersey Shore played magic, The Situation would play Nourishing Lich.

I had a good deck going for a while with Didgeridoo and Mana Echoes.

You should use Mana Echoes + Firecat Blitz. Awesomest casual deck ever (maybe can win a match even? Trinisphere/chalice etc..)

Persuade him to fit some Labirinth Minotaurs in that list and you've got some epic win.

But seriously, if he drops turn one Digeridoo into turn 2 Desperate Ritual -> Tangarth, I don't think I have an answer for that in my CT. :P
Let him build the deck, and commend him for the deck name. Then take him to a tournament and watch him go 0-X ;)
