After some discussion with our TO, it was decided that the best way Dream Wizards can support the Legacy community and the local player base is to offer small tournaments that allow veteran Legacy players to experiment and new players to explore the format with minimal dollar output.
There are several reasons for this, but the main one is this. Competitive prize support for large events has proven difficult to provide. Brick and mortar singles sales just does not generate the sort of profit margin that online distributors use to offset costs of prize support. Rather than put up a weak prize at a larger event, Dream Wizards would rather put up something reasonable and consistent at smaller events.
Expect to see a variety of sanctioned and unsanctioned events like this one designed to stimulate interest in Legacy and to provide a primer atmosphere for the larger SCG, et al. events. Sustained local interest and growth of the format is the principal interest, and these tournaments are a practical way to contribute to this end result. Hopefully others will agree. Cheers.
Chris, thanks. After running my own tournament I have a new appreciation for how difficult it is to provide decent prize support at a reasonable cost to players - I actually had to top 4 my own tournament in order to not lose money :)

Are you going, Jimmy?
Yeah, I should be at this along with Nick Ditizio and perhaps others.

Ooooohhhhh!!! Nicky is coming?!?!?
Be sure to remind him how warm it is at Dream Wizards.
Like, he should probably wear shorts. Short ones.
Annnnnnd........maybe a tank top.
Or even a mesh top. Y'know, just so he's comfortable.

At first I was disappointed that the prize support was going to be as weak as the friday night ones. But, after thinking about it, I'm not looking for any legacy cards. I just wanna have fun playing legacy with friends, and these tournaments let me do that (even though they won't attract as many people). I'll be there with my fiancee, my friend Doc, and possible some other people.
