Magus of the Abyss + Braids, Cabal Minion

Assuming that I have a board of:
-Magus of the Abyss
-Braids Cabal Minion
-Bloodghast

During my upkeep, can I:
-Put Magus trigger on stack, declare Bloodghast as target
-Put Braids trigger on stack
-resolve Braids trigger, sacrificing Bloodghast
-resolve Magus trigger, destroying nothing because its target is no longer on the battlefield

Does this work? Or is the timing on the targeting different than I am understanding?
