I'm buying this ginormous box of cards from a friend of mine. I thought it was pretty much cards he considered crappy commons and uncommons but I went through a small pile and found some Mirage rares (as you probably know, they didn't color code the rares on that set). What made me start this thread was when I found a Natural Order, money card nowadays that probably got overlooked back then.

The cards range in set from Ice Age, Mirage block , Urza's Saga, and end around Invasion Block.

He's smart enough to not leave cards like Force of Will or something in there, but there's probably alot of playable uncommons that could be useful.

Any thoughts on a few cards I should keep an eye out for?

Do you expect us to list all the playables from ice age to invasion?

Ice Age doesn't have much unfortunately. It's pretty much limited to getting Necropotence and Jester's Caps for anything worthwhile. Original Brainstorms and Swords are nice of course.

Mirage Block has these.

Vampiric Tutor
Undiscovered Paradise
Ancestral Memories
Lion's Eye Diamond
Phyrexian Dreadnought
Crystal Vein
Dissipate
Enlightened Tutor
Mystical Tutor
Worldly Tutor
Infernal Contract
Mind Harness
Shallow Grave
Spirit of the Night
Stupor
Zirilan of the Claw
Archangel
Desertion
Fireblast
Goblin Recruiters
Impulse
Natural Order
Necromancy
Quicksand (since it's back in standard)
Quirion Ranger
Summer Bloom
Three Wishes
Tithe
Aura of Silence
Buried Alive
Doomsday
Disrupt
Firestorm
Gaea's Blessing
Gemstone Mine
Lotus Vale
Null Rod
Serenity

Tempest block is pretty much limited to finding these

Cursed Scroll
Scroll Rack
Ancient Tomb
Dream Halls
Grindstone
Random Slivers
Eldamari's Vineyard
Eldamari, Lord of Leaves
Humility
Lotus Petals
Meditate
Mogg Fanatic
Propaganda
Wasteland
Mox Diamond
Intuition
Sliver Queen
Crystalline Sliver

Exodus and on have the gold symbol so you shouldn't have a problem with those. Not all of those are money cards, just decent playables and tradeable stuff. You should look up all the rares as EDH uses some odd stuff here and there and you can trade older rares for that format sometimes.

Thanks for the list!

@Dr. Jones
Nope. I'm thinking more along the lines of money cards. Stuff from back then that is worth a lot more today.

Keep an eye out for Guru lands and other early promos. I came across a few guru lands in college when I offered to buy friends' old cards.

Are there any Portal cards in there? That's what I always look for in C/UC boxes, ever since I found a Sea Drake for chump change.

Priest of Titania is from Urza's saga.

Of course, my bad. Still a good one to look for. Found like 15 in my bro's old shit box, sweet $50!

You can find good stompy stuff in boxes like that. Skyshroud Elite, Rogue Elephant, and Bounty of the Hunt come to mind.

Also Grindstone from Mirage.

It used to be a crappy card. Now it's close to 25$ on starcitygames.com

Grindstone is from Tempest.

Don't forget to look for Undiscovered Paradise from Visions. Was worth $4 and no one played it, now it's worth $15.
