View Full Version : Responding to cards in the process of being stolen

Let's say Mr. X was at a GP with his backpack of wonders and he catches someone blatantly trying to steal from him. Having had a somewhat bad day, Mr. X turns around and decks the urchin. What happens to Mr. X and the thief?
TL;DR: what is the floor ruling if someone gets decked in the face for a legitimate reason?

Both people will probably be thrown out of the venue and receive a DQ and probable ban from the DCI. This is in addition to any criminal charges or civil suit the assault victim wishes to pursue.

... For protecting property? Wierd.
This is why I support vigilante justice.

Now if you do not "deck" the thief but restrain him/(get help to) stop him from leaving, I do not think you will receive a punishment from the DCI or the authorities.
This is why I support controlling your emotions.

What if this happened in Texas? Can you shoot him?

hey, I'm always in complete control. The punishment equates to the value of the crime. He wants to steal (possibly) thousands of dollars in cards and instead he has to spend maybe $200 on surgery, and that's only if it's a good square hit. The way I see it, that's being generous.

As long as you dont shoot him in the back, but you can shoot him in the leg until he gets curious and turns around

So by that logic, should you mutilate everyone in an Enron's exec's family tree because he stole infi dollars from the employees?

A judge tackled someone stealing cards at GP: Chicago last year, IIRC. I remember him getting commendations from the DCI.

well, I think the employees should get their way with him and his associates. You're blowing things out of proportion. One can only be punished so much, but if he loses an arm, he'll never steal another fucking dime again.

If someone stole my Moat or Tabernacle, I won't mind mutilating the bastard.

But by that point this kid had stolen at least a dozen bags. And also the judges are there to "run" the events. The cops are allowed to shoot someone if need be, but civilians are not. Same concept just magic is nerdier.

Its just cards, is it really worth getting in trouble w/ the law for punching someone that stole $300 card from you?
You can just the same stop him from leaving and if he punches you, you can also sue him/get him in more trouble w/ the law & DCI.
$300 is not worth the legal trouble you can be in for punching someone, believe me.

It depends on where you are. In my state I can use force to prevent myself from being robbed.

sometimes I think people who don't believe in stuff like this are the people who have never been stolen from, or robbed, or whatever. The law probably wouldn't do anything about it (LOL kid's cards) and the DCI will just DQ and ban them. That hardly teaches them anything. The law is slow and inefficient. If you want to get stuff done, go do it.

And after you deck the guy he just says he wasn't looking and thought it was his bag. GG now you go to jail for assault and get banned from the dci.

When I first read this my immediate thought was that they would loose the game during their next draw step. Although I am not quite sure when the draw step is in the face...

This thread has fulfilled its purpose, even upon the very benevolent assumption that it had any in the first place.
