View Full Version : Rochester Legacy? Millenium?

So, on a fluke, I've bought some premade decks to play with my 8 year old son. I remembered how much fun I've had with this game and thought about starting to play Legacy again (it's been over a year since I've played). Millenium games claims to have "new and improved" Legacy tournies on Sundays. Are these tournies actually happening or do they get cancelled because of lack of attendance?

Since my little Newark store closed, I really don't have anywhere close to play :(.

I wouldn't advertise Millennium as a place to send your kid.
Millennium does have tournaments, at least last time I checked, and I believe they do happen.

If you are looking for a less competitive environment, Boldo's Armory(Monroe Ave) has Novice Legacy tournaments on Fridays starting at four.
They're free, but no real prize besides a crappy rare.

I'll never make it there on time. Besides, I was looking for myself, not the kid.

The Legacy tournaments at Millennium are pretty consistent. There were 18 players today.

Definitely come to the Saturday Legacy tournaments that freakish linked to, if you can. The prizes are pretty good for a $10 tournament. We had 13 players for our first tournament, and we'll be running another on March 6th.

Millenium one isn't that bad. You get a booster as an entry prize (entry cost being $5), and four packs if you Top 4 or some such.

And yeah, there's always the Saturday tournament too at RIT.

Just wondering - what competetive level are the Millennium/RIT tournaments at?
i.e does everyone have forces/duals/waste ect, or is it more like a couple people do, but a half decent deck could do well also?

They're both generally a mix. The last Millennium tournament had stuff like Team America and Pro-Bant, as well as tribal elementals and jank MUC, with plenty of other in-between decks. The RIT tournaments seem to have a bit less jank, though you can still do well without a terribly expensive deck. Mono-red Sligh has top4'ed both tournaments we've had so far.

Meaning with luck, and not many mistakes I could do well. Okay, thanks.

So this is going to be my first 'legit' legacy tournament, before I've just played in some small ones, where there weren't really any good decks. So I'm slightly nervous.

So...what deck should I play:

// Lands
4 [IN] Sulfur Vent
4 [IN] Geothermal Crevice
4 [IN] Ancient Spring
2 [PT] Swamp (4)
1 [DIS] Blood Crypt
3 [ALA] Crumbling Necropolis
1 [TSB] Gemstone Mine
1 [6E] City of Brass

// Spells
1 [IA] Urza's Bauble
4 [CS] Rite of Flame
4 [10E] Chromatic Star
3 [ALA] Ad Nauseam
4 [SC] Tendrils of Agony
1 [MR] Chrome Mox
4 [TO] Cabal Ritual
4 [MM] Dark Ritual
4 [TSP] Grapeshot
4 [US] Duress
4 [WWK] Everflowing Chalice
3 [MI] Mystical Tutor

And: Is this deck worth playing if I don't have the third Mystical Tutor?
If it is, what changes? As of now, it comboes off at ~3 no disruption, ~4-5 when I have to work around disruption.
------------------------------

Or should I play something like this:

x1 Arid Mesa
x1 Scalding Tarn
x1 Misty Rainforest
x1 Marsh Flats
x4 Terramorphic Expanse
x6 Island
x4 Forest
x3 Plains

x3 Lorescale Coatl
x3 Sakura-Tribe Elder
x2 Thada-Adel, Acquisitor
x3 Stoneforge Mystic

x3 Ior Ruin Expedition
x4 Ponder
x4 Brainstorm

x2 Mana Leak
x2 Spell Pierce
x4 Daze
x2 Path to Exile

x1 Basilisk Collar
x1 Trailblazer's Boots

x1 Sword of the Meek
x3 Thopter Foundry

Sideboard:
x3 Dispel
x3 Hydroblast
x3 Pithing Needle
x3 Relic of Progenitus
x3 Nature's Claim

---
The questions about this deck are much more in depth, but help on it would be appreciated either way.

I have 1 Krosan Grip, should that be in the Board instead of Claim?
I also have two Mindbreak Trap's, should those be in the board, or do I play enough countermagic to block storm already?

I don't have another Stoneforge Mystic, Goyfs, ect.
I have one Noble Hierarch, should I be playing it?
I have three Fathom Seers, play them? If so, how many?
I have four Rhox War Monks, should they be played? If so, how many?

Two Sword of the Meeks?
Two Collars?

Is Ior Ruin Expedition worth it? As of now its to buff up Lorescale/draw up lands.

I have access to 2x more PtE, and one StP. Should I be playing more spot removal?

The fetches are just because those are all I have in terms of fetches, and they help Brainstorm. I have one more Arid Mesa, if that's a factor.

Thanks for the help guys.

I'd be inclined towards the second one. It sounds like your ad nauseum list might have trouble racing aggro. Bring both decks anyway, we'll see what we can do about tuning either of them up beforehand.

As for what to do with the second list, I'd run the 4x Rhox War Monk, 4x StP effects, and board the Grip and Mindbreak Traps. Your deck looks like it wants Jitte really badly, I have 2 that you can borrow.

I'm going to a party at around 3 - Can't make the RIT one, I was thinking of going to the Millenium one tomorrow though, thanks for offering on the Jitte's though.

Thanks for the deck advice. RWM for Lorescale?, because they share the same slot, and with Lorescale out, Ior has no good function, providing room for 7x cards, meaning 2x StP effects, or Mask of Memory/another Collar/Heirarch/StP#5.

yo matt! I go to geneseo as you know, and go to millenium on the weekends sometimes. I'm actually busy for the next two weeks, but then i'd be down to meet you there or something. The tourneys are real, generally with good decks. i went 4-0 with storm the one time i went tho.

Without having a feel for how the deck actually runs, my first inclination is to cut 1x Sakura-Tribe Elder, 3x Ior Ruin Expedition, and 2x Ponder for 1x Noble Hierarch, 3x Rhox War Monk, and 2x Swords to Plowshares. I'd leave the Coatls in for the sake of having more dudes.

To be honest, three-color decks are really hard to pull off on a budget. You might want to start with something mono-colored, tune it as best you can, and try to win some cards for a more expensive deck. Burn/Sligh, Mono-Blue Control (if you can get your hands on Force of Will), Elves, or Goblins aren't terrible choices. Goblins has actually been doing rather well around here lately.

Alternatively, if you come to the next RIT tournament, you can probably borrow a deck from of us. We have some extras on hand for people who are currently working on their own decks but still want to play in the meantime.

I'm actually almost done with my LEDless ANT deck. Short one Mystical Tutor, two City of Brass, 2-3 Xantid Swarm, and four Lotus Petals(which adds up to about 25$, 15$ if I'm smart about it., and the budget bit is out of the way, and I have something usable. Then I work on the LED's...

Thanks a lot for the offer to borrow, I may end up coming to the next one - my friend is coming in from out of town that weekend, dunno if I'll have it free though. I'll let you know.

Thanks for the deck help for today - we'll see how it turns out.

Sure. Let's organize something. Unfortunately, I look at any good current deck and realize that I don't have the cards for it!

I've got two lotus petals I could trade you. I'm almost always at the Millennium tournaments on Sundays. If you see a guy with a green playmat and an oversized Chaos Orb on the cover of his trade binder, that'd be me.

Well, I'm gonna liquidate alot of my collection, but I'm saving B/g Reanimator and Zoo. Wanna play some Wild Nacatls?

Actually traded for a set of Petals yesterday, and my fourth Tutor - just need the last one to come in the mail. All I need now is City of Brass, and three more Silence, Thoughtsieze if I can pick them up, and then LED and Infernal's, of course.

But I've finished the basic skeleton, and its definately playable now.

Necro'ing this thread again today, wondering if anyone is going to Millennium tomorrow, and if they had a spare Mystical Tutor I could borrow(USPS sucks).
