Hello guys,

I am currently debating with someone that Mono-White has all possible answers with all the threats in the format. I am looking for examples and would love some help.

Here are some of my points:

Spot removal - Swords to Plowshares, Path to Exile

Mass removal - Wrath of God, Day of Judgement

Other creature control - Moat, Humility

Player protection - True Believer, Runed Halo, Solitary Confinement

Board protection - Karmic Justice, Sacred Ground

General removal - Oblivion Ring

Combo breaker/protector - Orim's Chant, Abeyance

Gravehate - Jotun Grunt (Relic of Progenitus/Tormod's Crypt)

Are there more white cards that can be utilized out there? I was looking at Quinn builds but I noticed that Quinn build cannot run all white has to offer. Can anyone help me out?

Ähm, Disenchant is probably a quite obvious answers to many things.

White is definitely the color of answers. But that does not mean that it is somehow able to stand on its own better than other colors. It is a boon on defense, to be certain. But it does not have sick offense like Tarmogoyf, Tombstalker, or Wild Nacatl. Serra Avenger and Jotun Grunt are good and all, but they are not on par with those guys. White needs another color to handle its offense, which is why white/blue is really only suitable for control.

White also is not good at preventing instants. It can't easily pull them out of your hand or counter them. And it's direct damage is poor. And it's library manipulation is bad. And it's ability to get cards into its gy is close to nonexistent. Etc.

There is a lot more to this game than having answers.

Look for Death and Taxes lists.

From the top of my head, I would add: Mother of the runes, Children of Korlis, Aethersworn Canonist, Samurai of the Pale Courtain, Rule of Law, Absolute Law, Honorable Passage (great against progenitus), Silence, Circles of Protection, Beckon Apparition, Mana Tithe, Tariff, Balancing Act, Suppresion Field, Pariah, Angel's Grace, Worship, Porphyry Nodes and Oblivion Ring.

I am not trying to argue about offense on white. This thread is essentially about on what white has to offer for the format.

Spiritual Asylum is quite good. Enchantress ran it when the kill was Auratog/Birds with Rancor and Ancestral Mask.

Wing Shards, Condemn and Temporal Isolation/Journey to Nowhere seem like possible removal spells as well for mono white.

Calciderm is a sick beater. As is Exalted Angel.

Also Glowrider against combo. And Aven Mindcensor against shuffle effects. Stonecloaker is GY removal.

MtgSalvation's Sideboard primer (http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/showthread.php?t=134453) has a pretty complete list of existing threats in legacy.

Hand protection: Spiritual Focus, Library of Leng, Mangara's Blessings, Wilt-leaf liege, Pure intentions, Metrognome, Dodecapod, Sand Golem, Ivory Mask, True Believer, Imperial Mask.
Anything: Oblation, Solitary Confinement.
Aggro decks: Blinding Angel, Windborn muse.
Spells: All flagbearers, dawn charm, Aegis of Honor, Iona, Shield of Emeria
Black/Red/White/Goblins: Tivadar of Thorn, Purge, Martyr's Cry, Tivadar's Crusade.

The problem with white is that its answers aren't very versatile. Counter and discard can theoretically deal with anything. White as a color can kill anything, but white cards generally only answer a specific kind of threat.

With all the cool white cards that everyone has mentioned. I'm tempted to build a mono white highlander deck. 24 Snow covered Plains plus all the controllish cards that people mentioned (yes Mother of Runes counts as a controllish card since it can chump block most threats and survive) so far along with a single Enlightened Tutor as 1 ofs (Eternal Dragon and Baneslayer Angel suffice as finishers).

Does anyone want to help me throw together a list? I think it could be a lot of fun. Versatility trumps consistency as far as I am concerned.

Why weren't Burrenton Forge-Tender and Cataclysm even mentioned?

Runed Halo
Karakas

It does sound like you want to play Quinn/DnT or heavy white enchantress.

Actually we are trying to build a Parfait deck that would work against this format (I am aware that Land Tax is still banned)

I stand corrected. Have you got an early list yet?

Sry, but I really think this thread can't become nothing other than a "fill the blanks" game. One person says a word, the next person says a related word, rinse, repeat ad infinitum.

If you intend create a new deck based on white answers, wouldn't be better post your decklist and ask for advice to refine it later?
