the sorceries that function at instant speed , like the ones you can play on an opponents turn. how do they function , are the instants now ?

Portal is full of stupid, outdated wording.

All of those cards like that have been errated to be instants.

The oracle text now says instant, instead of sorcery.

All sorceries that under the current rules can only exist as instants were given errata, mainly counterspells and other cards restricted to be cast outside sorcery conditions.
