Say my opponent attacks with a jitte equipped creature and i block with mother of runes and tap her to give protection to herself. Does my opponents jitte gain counters?

No, because protection prevents damage. Same would be true if you somehow removed the blocking creature before damage.

The Jitte will get counters if the creature has trample and enough power.

It also will get the counters if you fail to name one of the colors of the creature you are blocking with Mother of the Runes.

Or if it's a Thorn Elemental... zzz.

I was going to include that corner case, too, but then I would have to include all other corner cases like Karplusan Wolverine, which I deemed excessive.

Since Jitte only triggers on combat damage, wouldn't Jitte on Wolverine actually not get counters?

Yep.

How does this work? If it has Pro-one colour, it has Pro-the whole thing right?

I think he's referring to the situation where you name a color that isn't one of the attacking creature's colors.

Ow, right, yeah, I guess I misread.

The Jitte will also gain counters if you blocked with an addional creature that does not have protection from one of the colors of the creature equiped with Jitte that was attacking you if your opponent deals damage to that creature.

I am not sure what you want to tell us, BUT:

If a 2/2 white creature + jitte attacks, you block with one mother and one 1/1 vanilla and give mother pro white then
even if mother is the first creature in damage order the attacker might just deal 1 damage to the mother and 1 to the other creature to have jitte gain some counters. if the 1/1 vanilla comes first and motehr second he might give 2 damage to the vanilla and 0 to mother or again 1-1.

Ups, you are right. I'll edit it.
