I am running a Stonefore Mystic package in an aggro deck with 2 Stoneforge Mystics, 2 Umezawa's Jitte and 1 Sword of Fire and Ice. I am trying to decided whether to go with Basilisk Collar over the SOFI or leave it how it is.

Is there any situation where you would rather have BC over SOFI or Jitte? One situation would be your opponent has a goyf out, say 5/6 and you have no board and play a Stoneforge Mystic. What equipment would you get? Jitte would require them to swing then you swing back to get some counters then you can get the goyf the next combat. BC would just need you to equip then you can trade while SOFI will probably stop them from attacking so you don't' deal combat damage to a player.

BC can also help when racing Progenitus or reanimator targets. However some situation occur when I have a 3/3 Wild Nacatl out and my opponent has a 4/5 Goyf. BC will allow to trade and life gain where SOFI will force him to chump or you connect and get the card advantage.

I can see situations for both equipment and was wondering what the general consensus on this was.

The situation where you're under pressure and you don't have alot of mana.

I like the BC because you also can do one other thing with it and that's it's selling point for me. It's when there's a 4/5 goyf out or some such and you have that same Nacatyl and you now can race due to the lifelink.

I would go with the situation where you want a mean looking bulldog on your side or alternately are playing Trinket Mages with a toolkit instead of Stoneforge Mystics with an equipment kit. You are rarely going to be able to land the Basilisk Collar against CounterTop whereas you might get a Jitte or more probably SofI down. Against Zoo it just isn't going to matter what equipment you fetch because they're going to remove the creature you'd attach it too, probably right after you spend the mana to equip.

The reason that Basilisk Collar works better with Trinket Mages than Stoneforge Mystics is that you can fetch Engineered Explosives instead when CounterTop is on the table and potentially preserve some of the value of your Basilisk Collar down the road instead of having it be a dead card.

It's my opinion that if you're going to play Mystic and that the optimal equipment package is Jitte/Collar SoLS. If you've got room beyond that, then run SoFI. SoLS is just superior these days, since it's protection from the most commonly played removal and from the most commonly played creatures other than goyf. SoFI can have some impact on fish, but even there... 2 damage just doesn't kill anything anymore.

Grafted Wargear.

What?
Explain please.
Do you mean Grafted Wargear> SoFaI & Collar?

@SpikeyMikey
Perhaps one in the MB and one in the SB???

Depends on the supporting cast of creatures, Spellstutter Sprite and Vendilion Clique love them some SoFi. Honestly tho', I'd rather just run another Jitte, you'll get into Mystic/Jitte wars over the Legendary status and will want a 2nd copy to remove your opponent's or regain the upper hand.

I'd never run Collar short of Trinket Mage

In an aggro deck with no flyers. What equipment in order do you prefer and why?

Mine is:
1. Jitte. Very versatile, deal with most situations
2. Basilisk Collar. Has immediate effect and can win races / chump block fatties.
3. Sword of fire and Ice/Light and Shadow. Protection can be relevant. But I find I want immediate effects where the Swords here are conditional on getting their full effect.

With flying creatures, SOFI and SOLS move up to spot #2 because the evasion turns on the Swords to their full effect.

SoFI with a 3/3 Nacatly eats their Goyf. I like the sword because you can swing in hard, and 2 more to the face is never bad.
