What is the reasoning of an all proxy tourney?
Have you run legacy tourneys at this store before, do they have legacy singles?

I'd be coming from north of the border and have a hard time with customs usually so just wondering if it would be worth the trip.

The store itself hasn't much for singles, however, the trades are good as well as the gentleman who is supplying the boxes has loads of almost every single on his person.

Reason being for the proxies, we just want everyone to be able to play. Not every can immerse themselves in to a format where your basic lands are essentially 30$ each easily. With Wizards showing love for Legacy, we've decided to put down our Vintage decks for a bit and see what all the ruckus is about.

Hope you can make it.

hey guys were in! There are 8 of us and if anyone is looking for singles we have almost all major cards for legacy.
Also i think this is a great idea full proxy, we get to see people play that wouldn't normally play this format and every once in a while you see a new deck emerge. See Eveyone there.

Count me in I will bring another guy with me. All proxies is a great idea to get more people in. I dont know why nobody gives much grief to the Meandeck Opens for allowing proxies. Oh I know why cause they are scared of the head master Stevie.

I'm calling out all the Americans on this one. Canada shows love for Ohio and Michigan events, but where the hell are you at when we're running things?

I think JD and Ben Perry came down for one event and that was it. 2 guys out of about 24357 events.

Plus Demars telling horror stories of being forced to lift his scrotum didn't help, most likely.

They may not have asked Demars to do this if he would stop wearing pink shirts, cardigans and scarves.

Leave Brian alone, he's a nice enough dude. Event if he fronts like he's some kind of trust fund Tennis player.

Well it looks like we will have enough players for the tempest box and we are close to giving the other box also, maybe we can do a side event for those who don't make top 8 for the other box, but i will have to see the day of the event. Also we have door prizes to give in the way of cards(so no it is not a random deck box), given to us by the store owners and so of the players( A karakas should be in there). So see you all there.

Have you posted this on MTGOntario.com? If you need an account let me know. Just sign up and PM the user name and email used and i'll get the site owner to approve it (The reason for referral only membership is to keep out all the spammers and duplicate accounts).

I don't think you will get any one from closer to Toronto out for this one as there are two other legacy events happening this weekend at other stores, but Windsor is pretty far for most people anyway. Best of luck!

That's very true, the weekend is stacked with Legacy events. It's all good though, at least a lot of people in a lot of places are going to be having a good time doing something they love, I'm all for it.

Thanks for the help on the MTGOntario stuff, too.

75 proxies? I think I might have just died a little inside.

Yes full proxy, only because if you set a # there is always a guy that say " 20 proxy!, i can't build unless there is 21", so we wanted to open it up to everyone, because if you are a legacy or vintage player you know once you start it is hard to quit. So you don't have to die over it you can just thank us for getting more people to play a format you enjoy. Also if the guy has a proxy deck that wins he will probably get some legacy cards out of the box or he will trade it to get cards to build a deck.

I will see everyone there and i hope you enjoy this event. Also if you are looking for cards message me a list ahead of time and i can dig to have them ready.

I really don't think you need to run proxies in Ontario, considering there have been 2-4 legacy tournaments a month in this province with 25-45 people no proxy for the last 4 months it doesn't seem like a problem, and sanctioning is good. Maybe down in Detroit and Windsor it has been different and there isn't a scene yet.

Best of luck on the event.

No..there really is no excuse for a seventy-five card proxy tournament. Anyone who plays even the lowest level of competitive Magic isn't that hard up. Proxied events are fine every so often, and if you want to do it by all means.

But looking at an opponent's permanent foundation with writing all over the place would not only be indelibly painful to stare at, so would the headaches that would go along with wording judge-calls all day.

Remember, this isn't a fifteen card proxy tournament you're advertising. Something like that would be far more reasonable. You're allowing people to turn their libraries...into actual libraries. Just saying.

2 things:

1) Is this event DCI sanctioned? I dont really care about that, I just wanted to know if we need the whole DCI number going on. Mine isn't an issue but I just wanted to make sure, for everyone.

2) For those attending there from here, wheres everyone from? Carpool would be really helpful.

What you have to remember is this is our first event and we don't have a strong legacy group in our area only 16 or so, so this allows our standard players to enter with out having to put out money for a format that they just might not enjoy, second our players are not dicks so they wont be playing full proxy decks, remember guys this is a enjoyable event where you could win older product and have lots of fun so players beware.

That sounds fine and all, and it is quite understandable. However, having a seventy-five card proxied event is a little extreme. Narrowing it down to say, fifteen cards and subsequently charging people maybe one dollar for every proxy there on out is something a lot of places do with a great deal of success.

Sixteen players per week for Legacy is not that bad at all. Old booster boxes are a neat prize and all, and I suppose if you're doing this just for simply "enjoyment" as you put it, that could be a slight turnoff for attracting players from out of town at your inaugural event. Still, it's a good thing to promote the format so keep it up.

i'm not sure enjoyment is a turn off for attracting players from out of town, you would think this would get more attention seems how it sound like an easier field because we all know you play the game for enjoyment or the prize and this event has both. Also the next event we have will be less proxy, like i said it is our first and this is the direction we choose.

When you're paying money for gas, hotel, and food expenses to and from, enjoyment comes a distant second to compensation for good prize support.

But again, that's cool because it is your first event.

I appreciate your view, but the fact of the matter is, 15 cards won't cut it for a lot of locals, which is who matters on a personal basis far beyond out-of-towners, obviously, as far a local shop is concerned. I'm not going to gouge friends and familiar faces an extra god-knows-how-many dollars because someone might get a headache from having to, heaven forbid, read something on a card.

If the prize and structure aren't too much of a chore, I bid you, come out and have a good time. I'd love to meet as many out of town players as I can. If it doesn't fit your liking, I apologize it doesn't cater to your wants or needs. I understand that there is a lot to consider when you're coming from out of town, and there's a lot of ways to weigh it to see if it's worth it. But, as far as worth goes, you'd have to win to make it worth it, and I doubt you could take it from me.
