The DCI version (B-right) has a huge RoE symbol in the text box which kinda looks a big shiny diamond.

The pre-release one looks kinda like the spaceships from Independence Day.

They both look like flying nutsacks, especially the DCI one.

The non-DCI foil is worth more and harder to find. Easy. Personally, I like the picture better anyway, but that's a matter of choice.
Personally, it reminds me more of this.

I like the regular one. The prerelease version is awful, mostly because of the perspective - it provides zero sense of scale and fearsomeness, and the frontal view makes it look less alien and inscrutable. It could just as easily be a 1/1 Amoeba.

I will have to agree with the above, really. The non-DCI foil is just so much better, and this is a fact; objective statement. There is no way one can argue that the DCI is better than the regular one. I was shocked when I was handed that prelease card, the quality of the ink or whatever is a real disgrace.
Besides, the regular one reminds me of an aeon from the Final Fantasy series, and I love Final Fantasy.

I think it comes down to the artist:
Justin Sweet: painted some cards
Mark Tedin: MTG icon

The Prerelease one feels more colorless in overall composition.

Get them both and exchange them while playing...

Tedin art FTW. And always go with the regular foil, unless it's Judge :-)

I'll take Justin Sweet as an illustrator any day over Tedin. Sweet's textures are subtle, deep, and atmospheric, while Tedin's textures are way overdone.
Although in this case I'd take the non-DCI card because it's non-DCI.

I feel if you get japanese you need to get some tentacle porn altered into it. The japanese are known for that...

I was bidding on the Japanese Non-Promo Foil Emrakul. I stopped at $80, it went for $130+
Did you win it, OP?

Yeah I saw that. But the first one ended at around $85.
