View Full Version : Getting back into MTG, and Legacy. A question.
Hello everyone I'm the New Guy!
I played Magic from roughly Invasion until shortly after Mirrodin. Well, I'm older and actually have a disposable income now so I'm gonna start playing Legacy! Hurrah for me!
I'm currently in Iraq for another month or so but I'm looking to start purchasing (read: ebaying) the core cards for legacy. I'm well aware some cards such as Duals, FoW, Wastelands, ect. Are well established at their high-ish prices. However, the card I'm wondering about is Tarmogoyf. It seems to be in a large number of decks. As it's still in the T2 rotation I was wondering if any of you market analysis gurus think it will go down in price after it rotates? $300 for a playset of a T2 card is hard to swallow.

It's not in type 2 anymore. And it's unlikely to go down in value much until it sees reprint. Don't hold your breath.

Tarmogoyf is actually not in T2 currently and is at its highest price ever. After it rotated, the price dropped to where you could pick up a playset for under $100, but it has been rising steadily. Legacy is growing in numbers and that just adds to the demand of Tarmogoyf. It won't rotate out of extended for quite some time, so if you plan on building a Legacy deck with Goyf in it, I just recommend you scour ebay and try to pick up a set for around $200-250.

Thank you for the correction! I guess I should pay more attention. I guess I'll just be sucking it up since just about every deck that intrest me except Enchantress runs 4 of them.

so where will you be after Iraq? i hope in the north-east. It seems to be the best place for Legacy players. What decks are looking towards?

I'm from WV but sadly stationed in Fort Lewis, WA. I'll be moving to Hawaii in January though. Hoping there is a legacy crew there. If not, at least I'll have cards when I get out.
It's looking like it'll be;
AggroLoam
DreadStill
Enchantress
ANT
Combo is my true love, but I've been out of the game for far too long to grab ANT. Honestly money isn't an issue, I'm just a stingy bastard.

My brother is in 5th Battalion 20th infantry. Sadly, he became too cool for Magic during his high school days. There is (was) a pretty good Legacy community in Portland. I'm not sure what's happening there now but maybe someone from the area can give us a shout.
I'm in 1st Battalion 23rd Infantry. We're in the same Brigade and likly the same FOB.

Hurray for a WV sourcer! I thought I was the only one.
If you ever come back this way and want some place to play, we have about 10 people that play legacy here between huntington and charleston.

Maybe the price of Goyf will drop when he gets reprinted. They have to reprint him because he is futureshifted.

They'll reprint him when they make their new rarity: Epic Mythic Mega Rare

Rosewater explicitly said that some futureshifted cards will never be reprinted.

Well, Future Sight is going to give all of you glimpses into Magic's future. Glimpses? Yes, Future Sight is not a peek into a single future but instead glimpses into a myriad of possible futures. Some of these futures are going to come to pass, while some of what you see in this set you'll never see again.
I believe the purpose of Tarmogoyf was to preview the Tribal and Planeswalker card types that would be released in Lorwyn. Other than those snippets of reminder text, what about him is 'future-like'? (Maybe you can argue power creep of creatures, but I don't think that was the explicit intent. They've admitted that Goyf was a mistake to be so cheap.)

That's something I can't understand. Why reprint a "future shifted" card with old frames? :eyebrow: I guess I'm being to literal/geeky but it would seem that if those cards were really glimpses of the future, the future frames will change to that style. Unless that future shifted Future Sight version is in fact a reprint of the Shadowmoor version.
Anyway, sure Tarmo will be reprinted, in a duel deck ten years after he's been punted via power creep.

I used to play in Fairmont but I'll have to consider a trip down next time I go home.

Tarmogoyf should have its own rarity.
