How far is Bridgewater from the Boston area?
Dilettante

Driving from downtown on a Wednesday night... probably 45 minutes to get to 24, then 20 more minutes to get to the Bridgewater exit, then 15-25 minutes to get to the store depending on traffic. It's highly variable. It takes me 35-40 minutes to drive on a no-traffic day from Wellesley and I barely make it at 7:00 if I leave my house at 5:45 on a Friday night.
I probably won't be able to make it due to the drive and past my days of working in the area if I barely make the 7 PM events. The issue is traffic in general in the area. If it's a 6:00 PM start time, the only ones who can make it are people who live/work within Route 24/Wrentham area. Outside of that, traffic going to Bridgewater Center makes it... unmakeable for a 1 hour driving radius with the multiple bottlenecks.

I'd also say 7 is a better time for those of us who leave work at 5 and knowing the traffic coming out of Boston, and the 45 minutes it takes to get from one to the other without traffic.
I can offer rides from Boston if anyone needs one.
We do Monday Night Vintage at 7, so it's a possibility. The issue becomes how late it can get out. If enough people who can only make it for 7 are actually able to stay out for 4-5 rounds, then we can certainly make the change. I have never had a problem with traffic going to Scholars. It's just 24 to exit 15, and no more than 10 minutes from there straight down 104.
Let's hear some feedback. If we can get 8+ people commit to attending the first even due to a time change in this thread, I'll make the switch.

I should almost certainly be there regardless of time.

Completely editing my post. I WILL be there but not this week... Awful as it is, my schedule is rock solid and it was too late to change with someone. My friend and I play fnm from time to time depending on work and we both have closing shifts this weds.
Future tournaments please! Don't reconsider running them again based on this weeks attendance. I've been waiting for local legacy tournaments for three years now so I'm quite glad to see it so close. Thank you!
Yes, this will be a weekly event. Once we have enough of a local crowd, I will start doing bigger tournaments on weekends too!

Not sure how silly of a question this might be, are proxies allowed. I know vintage Mondays allow them, wasn't sure if it extends to this.
These events are sanctioned, so no proxies allowed.

Pretty sure that I am going to be able to make it this week. What is the size of the local crowd?
We're building from the ground up. These are the first Legacy events at Scholars. Monday Night Vintage has been successful for years, and some of the players will be trying out Legacy. A few are very interested in the format, with multiple decks built. Bridgewater State College is also within walking distance, so hopefully we will draw from that as well. Once we get rolling, I hope that this event can soundly be in the 4-5 round terrirory every week.

$6? Sanctioned as well? I missed that. This indeed will require me to ask for every Wednesday evening off ... thank you!
We had our first event tonight, and all went well. The store owner made the already insane prize support even sweeter with an additional door prize - a full art playmat. We gave it out at random to a player who played through the entire tournament.

Scott Bluementhal took first, with an unconventional Thresh style list. I'm psyched to be able to play against good competition every week. I look forward to elevating my game!

THANK GOD WoTC IS PUTTING AN END TO THIS COMBO DOMINANT META!!!!
This week we had 12 players, and one person on the sidelines
1st Landstill
2nd Zoo
3rd Dark Depths
4th Enchantress
I made some legendary errors in this weeks events. For the record, when your opponent goes for the Hexmage Dark Depths combo, and you've got like, 5 answers, including two counters in hand, don't attempt to KO Lariat Mage with Pernicious Deed.
Kerwin played Zoo to a 2nd place finish, in his first Legacy tournament ever. For anyone who complains about the cost of Legacy, I point to him as a good example of how adults should play the game. He found a list of Zoo that he liked, and he purchased it in one shot. I gave him a good deal, and he's already earning money with it. If you're good, your cards will pay for themselves over time.
Even at full retail, the whole list would cost much less than a set of good golf clubs. In golf, you pay $40 to go play, and you get nothing, no chance of winning money. At Scholar's, you put up $6, and with a great turn out, you have a chance to walk away with $40 in cash.

hey eric
how much credit would you say you had in jason ford's playing of landstill to a t4 of the gp (currently as of this posting)
I taught Jason everything he knows about Magic, and life. He has learned to look up to me as a father figure, after repeatedly destroying him in Vintage through the years. Though he would fear playing me, knowing he would lose, he always knew that he would learn from the matches, something about humility, and something about being better than everyone else at everything. I can honestly say, I made him the man he is. I am responsible for all his current and future success.
The debt he owes my tutelage is surpassed only by the benefit he reaped from playing at Wednesday Night Vintage before the GP. There, in my presence, he learned everything a top level pro needs to know about the format. The time he spent watching me play ranks amongst the most important and influential times of his short and successful life thus far. He will cherish it always.
[/nonsense]
Seriously though, you'd have to ask Jason. I shipped him my list, but he is a tremendous player, and could have had similar results with a variety of decks. We were able to talk after the WNL before the GP for quite a bit, and I'm glad we did. Hopefully he had more fun than he would have had with Dredge.

1st Scott Bluementhal Zoo
2nd John O'Rourke Zoo
3rd Eric Dupuis Landstill
4th Scott Hughes Goblins
Play of the Night - Scott Hughes driving from CT to make Top 4!

If anyone wants to carpool from RI/ Fall River let me know. I have to do some testing.
1st Eric Dupuis Landstill
2nd Dan Czech Death and Taxes
3rd John O'Rourke Landstill
4th Jan Smith Merfolk
Play of the Night - Nothing hugely impressive this week. The most interesting play that I made was:
Player 1 - Cast Oblivion Ring
Player 2 - Having only Pernicious Deed in as a non-land permanent, Sac it for 1 to destroy Aether Vial
Player 1 - Remove my own guy :/
1st Eric Dupuis Landstill
2nd Justin Lutz Death and Taxes
3rd Scott Bluementhal Zoo
4th Matt Orfanello Pro-Bant
Play of the Night - I forgot the promo cards that everyone usually gets. Double Promos for anyone who returns next week!
1st Adam Brennan Zoo
2nd Jan Smith Merfolk
3rd Matt Orfanello Mono W Stax
4th Justin Lutz Death and Taxes
Play of the Night - Everyone got a bonus Perhaps You've Met My Cohort, as well as a bonus promo foil on top of the already amazing prizes.
I'm putting out the call. If you're in the area, and like Legacy, we need to rebuild our player base. We lost several players who went back to college, so if you're looking for a place to play Legacy, with excellent prize support, now's the time. I also have a huge selection of legacy staples, from Aether Vial to Zuran Orb and all the Duals, Fetches and Forces in between. I'm always looking to trade, buy or sell.

These tournaments are pretty great, I try to go as often as possible and would encourage people on here to do so as well. We need new blood.
1st Matt Macauley - Mono Red Burn
2nd Eric Dupuis - Landstill
3rd Josh Cicio - 4c Counterbalance
4th Nick Wilbur - Goblins
1st Adam Brennan - Zoo
2nd Dan Czech - Burn
3rd Matt Orfanello - Ad Naseum
4th Eric Dupuis - Landstill
Play of the Night - My match loss to burn involved me attacking with 2x Factories while I'm at 5 life and thinking I've stabilized. I thought his one card in hand was a mountain. It turned out to be Volcanic Fallout :(
We have missed sanctioning a few times, and we've got to evaluate these events. If you're at all interested in playing Legacy on Wednesdays, this is the week to show up. I'll be giving away extra foils to everyone, and the attendance will determine if we keep these events going through the winter. With the SCG event this weekend, this is your best chance to get in some practice, and I always have a ton of singles available. Of course, I'm always buying/trading for all cards.
These events are going on a temporary hiatus. There will still be casual play available, but in order to reach sanctioning consistently, we will need to change away from Wednesday Nights. Thank you to everyone who has supported these events. I'll post when we've decided how we will be supporting Legacy moving forward.

Totally missed this and showed up tonight. Ha! I'll be vigilant in my forum reading for the return though. Unfortuantely (fortunately), I got another friend to start coming as well
It's looking like this will come back as a weekend event. Check here and on Facebook on New England Eternal to keep up to date.

Bump. This has been revived to an every Weds. event at Scholar's!
These have been going pretty well lately. We've been at 8-12 most weeks, and I'd like to see both new and familiar faces attend these. My trades binder is in the process of going digital, and I always have any of the Duals, Forces, Fetches, Goyfs, and other Legacy staples for trade!

I'm looking to get there tonight! I most likely will not make the tournament; however, since work has ruled my life I think I deserve a little nerdy break. Hope to see everyone there!
