On the rulings for this card it says:

"10/1/2005 If an effect puts Golgari Grave-Troll onto the battlefield from your graveyard, Golgari Grave-Troll counts itself as one of the cards in your graveyard and gets a counter accordingly."

I just wondered if this is some random ruling, or if it's coherent with the MTG rules somehow. Either way, it doesn't make much sense to me.

It's because it's a replacement effect, and it counts before it's on the battlefield, which is when it's still in the graveyard.
