Yeah should be a good time Scott. I talked with some of the above mentioned peeps at the Providence PTQ I vended at on Sat. They said in all likelihood they would be coming. I bring up the PTQ because I picked up some goodies that I will be working into this tournament and another Legacy tournament I will hold shortly after this one sometime in August. Still working on the date for that one.
This is a full schedule of my store's upcoming events:
7/9-7/11 M11 pre-release. 7/9 Friday Midnight event and 7/10 Noon event. Both are $25 with free food. 7/11 2-headed sealed at noon $40 per team /w free food.
7/17 M11 Launch Party. $25 /w free food top 8 draft
7/18 This Legacy tourney =D

I would like to attend all of these.
Except FNM. t2 sucks. Srsly, Jace 2.0 is so good, other decks have to run jace 1.0 just to stop him, so the decks with jace 2.0 have to run thier own jace 1.0 to stop everyone elses jace 1.0

$5 flights that will fill with 5 people. 1st = $15 credit 2nd = $10 and all EDH players will get to choose between 3 different multiplayer promos as part of WOTC's summer of multiplayer promotion :-)
Despite Wotc's decision to completely warp extended, Foil Goyfs are still maintaining their high value.
Looking forward to this very much. Thanks again and see you on July 18th.

Things have been busy lately so I didn't get to update this as much as I would like lately.
Had over 100 people for my Pre-releases during the weekend and many of them expressed interest in this coming weekend's launch party and goyf tourney =D
Got a ton of good prizes set aside just for this event that I haven't mentioned. Let's just say it's a hell of a goody table for top 8. Also will payout beyond top 8 if this event gets 40 or more people, which I think it can.
EDH side events should go. Had some go off already and they were very popular with my players. 5 person flights with only $5 entry and you get to choose from 3 different multiplayer promos just for entering. First gets $15 credit and second $10.
I am able to do m11 drafts this weekend also. I run 5-3-2-2 swiss drafts for only $12. I suspect several of those will go off.
Finally I'm just looking forward to holding a legacy event again. It's been a while and between this and the Aug one there should be alot of different decks showing up.
Thanks as always for the interest and hopefully see you Sunday.

Best play of the tournament is game 3 of top 8. Combo player v death and taxes with no combo hate. Combo player goes all into with lion's eye diamond to grind the death and taxes player. Death and taxes player looks down at a jotun grunt on the board. Needless to say, death and taxes got there.

25 people showed.
Eddie Dunning went undefeated with UW landstill planeswalker control.
Nick Wilbur came in second with Hive Mind Show and Tell (deck was named the Beehive :).
Slightly less than I was hoping for in 25 people, but still gave out all prizes plus 5th-8th.
Lots of fun matches.
Everyone seemed to have fun and the tourney went extremely fast (I'd like to thank the head judge... me :p).

Previously gigolo Joe used Jotun Grunt to target my grave so I foolishly believed that the upkeep cost could only target an opponent. An unforgettable $25 lesson of how a misconception caused from lack of experience from a playing a card & basically not reading it will lead to epic failure.. Im kinda sorta glad that Joe won just 2 see how ever unlikely the odds are one can still win the lottery.
Thanks Dave for providing another memorable Legacy event & to all the players who showed up to have a good time. Peace.

No EDH fired off this time around but there were drafts.

I'm looking forward to the August one. Hoping for big turnout. The entry fee is lower since first prize isn't 4 foil goyfs, but the prizes are far more spread out. Top 4 gets 8 blue duals and 2 from the vault respectively, and 5th-8th will have great prizes also.
I'm acquiring alot of older cards later in the week so I will most likely list some specific prizes for top 8 =D
Also I would love to pay out to top 12 in August, I would just need around 40 players. I've gotten in that neighborhood before for several of my legacy tourneys and it's usually the cheaper ones, which this upcoming one in August is. So that should be alot of fun.
Many things surprised me about this past tourney, the biggest surprise being the decks that showed up. Lots of combo but very original variants like Tendrils boarding into Painter/Grindstone (if he played around Jotun Grunt he was in top 4 :p) and the Beehive which was blowing people away until finals.
Top 8 was incredibly varied with zoo, white weenie, planeswalker control and even RU fish making an appearance (go ninja go ninja go! :p)
In the end Eddie Dunning just couldn't be stopped with his Landstill/Planeswalker deck. He had literally every good card in White/Blue/Black. Everytime I thought he didn't play something it would show up in his hand. He dropped 2 games on the entire day.
I'd love to show lists right now to complement the descriptions I just gave, but I'm tired and not at the shop :p
I will go in early tomorrow and get them up. I promise.
Thanks again to those who showed and even those who didn't I appreciate the kind words and your interest in my tourneys.
Take care.

My paranoia of Swords, Trap, etc.. caused me to Duress 1st turn instead of winning! Joes turn 2 lucky top deck into Wasteland takes out my only land! Then on my turn 3 I had an elderly moment & slept on reading 1 of the few cards that stops Painter/Grindstone combo(FYI the pic below demonstrates my reaction)! I now live in shame & have nightmares of Grunt.

Rod: like I said during our match. Magic is indeed a game of learning. I've been playing since unlimited and I learn something new almost every time I go out to tournaments. I was a casual player for the longest time and got into competetive play in my mid 20's. Don't beat yourself up about it at all. We all make mistakes ( I could have lost that game to my own error if you had drawn a dark ritual since I made a mistake of my own and did not immediately play wheel of sun and moon, which would have locked you out) next time I am sure you will read every obscure white card I play with scrutiny ;)

I was joking about the tech part( since you failed to post it ), I would have loved cataclysm to come through for me that day, but in the matches I brought it in I either won before it was needed or I lost before I ever saw it in my hand. It would be amazing against planeswalker.deck but jace locks out the draws so quickly. That is indeed my worst matchup. Glad he won since that deck looks really solid. Also disappointed I didn't face zoo, the finks and cataclysms are in there also for that matchup... Still another awesome tournament Dave. I should make the one in August, but after my daughter comes home to stay I may not be around for the last few months of the year

Nice to see the Dream Salvage/Igg combo getting some love. Rod, what MUs did you face in the swiss?

1st match: Enchantress
2nd match: CB Top with Progenitus, AKA The Golden Shower
3rd match: Zoo
My best play was against John Kubilis/ Zoo. During game 2 of Johns last turn he smashed with a solid team & then passed a 1 turn clock. Then I top deck better than Urza & see Intuition. 1st I cast LED. Then Cabal Ritual & in response John used Pridemage to target LED. So instantly I cast Intuition & cracked LED in response & got enough cards in the grave to regain threshold from an early Crypt to eventually Tendrils for the win. No doubt I would have lost that match without Intuition.

Nice! Intuition seems pretty solid in the deck. Did you do any testing with Lim-Dul's Vault? In the CB Top match did you ever wish you had Chant effects (though I'm assuming that's what the alternate combo and Extirpates are for)?

Intuition is solid in the deck. I don't understand y it doesn't get plaid in most builds that include blue. Y.. not play an instant-speed Demonic Tutor? It seems many players don't understand how 2 use it. Maybe they would if it had this Flavor Text: " The master tutor was bewildered by the silly comment her enemy replied after revealing identical choices." Anyway I didn't test Lim-Dul's Vault because I only run 1 Tendrils. But let me know if that works out. Honestly the deck probably needs Chant effects. Eventually IGG will cause your opponent 2 return more than 1 counter spell & odds r your not getting past that without Chant. I didn't run Chants because I lack the necessary duals. So I hoped for the best with 7 Duress effects & it kinda worked out. Painter/Grindstone in the board seemed ideal because most players board out all creature removal when faced against Tendrils combo. O..& Extirpate is just broken. U ever go turn 1 swamp, Dark Ritual, Thoughtseize, Duress & then Extirpate?
