What does the new Extended mean for Legacy?

I couldn't find a thread that talked about the new Extended format, but this is what I'm talking about:

My first thought is what will happen to Legacy. It has the potential to change so many things about the format. Card prices and dwindling player base comes to mind first.

In a nutshell since I'm low on time, card prices for duals, FoW, and older cards may drop. Second is that could this format actually replace Legacy? Larabee mentions that he wants this format to be more "widely played than Legacy."

I wanted to see what people thought about this.

Or more people will decide they're sick of playing increasingly neutered versions of the game and switch to eternal formats. Prices will rise and people will continue to incessantly bemoan the reprint policy. WotC will eventually (a) revoke the policy to reprint older staples in special non-standard-playable sets like FTV, or (b) continue to remain silent and do nothing.

Basically I think that the new extended was created for the express purpose of making it easier to run high level events without having a stagnant extended season where everything from the previous season is the same at the next season (as LSV pointed out in his article on the topic on Channelfireball.com). I do not however think that WotC, the DCI or the WPN will take it to the level where they actively pursue shutting down older formats like Vintage or Legacy on the basis that they do not rotate. Rather both of those formats will probably be relegated either to Grand Prix's or Annual Sanctioned events, the former in the case of Legacy, and the latter in the case of Vintage. Much the way it currently is now. I think this is probably the optimal place that they wish to have it settle, and that what they mean by having the new extended be more popular than Legacy is that they don't wish to see Legacy Tournaments the size of Grand Prix Madrid ever again. At least that is my interpretation.
