I like to make experimental decks and I have been looking for a website (or program) that is good for someone like myself that wants to create a large number of theoretical decks without actually having to have the actual cards (as that can get expensive).

What are some good websites or programs? I want something detailed, like the interface showing me how many spells are of 2CMC or what % of the deck is lands. Things like that.

I currently use http://www.essentialmagic.com but the site has a habit of being flaky at times.

you could try Magic Workstation, it has built in deck diagnostic tools and the like. The problem with this one is that it doesn't come with any of the cards pre-installed into the database so you have to find them all online across the internet (salvation should have links to them all). Additionally the playing community leaves a little bit to be desired.

Alternatively if you are willing to spend a little bit of money you could try Magic Online which has by far the most advanced deck diagnostic and sorting tools in existence in my opinion. The main problem with this format is that the cards all have to be purchased individually, or via digital booster packs, and even though you are purchasing them, the contract you sign when you register for the program makes perfectly clear that we the players do not own the digital product in the game at any time. However on the flip side the playerbase is definitely far superior to that of any other gaming platform on the internet, in fact there are even some high level pro's playing on it including but not limited to Lois Scott Vargas, and if I am not mistaken Patrick Chapin.

One advantage to Magic Online as opposed to Paper Magic is that the decks as a whole are generally 20 to 50 dollars if not more cheaper than they will be in their paper form due to the generally cheaper nature of the digital product.

But if you are just looking for databases for your deck ideas, then I would suggest places like deckcheck (don't know if they still allow you to save your sample deck lists or not?), as well as the aforementioned essential magic. There is also mtgurl.com that you could try (they do allow you to save your deck lists). Other than that I Am not sure on any others.

Deckstats.net (http://deckstats.net/?lng=en) is unparalleled if you want to read tables, graphs and charts. It can import and export files from other programs, so you can put lists into .dec format and then just upload them all for full readouts.
