View Full Version : Reverse the Sands + Rain of Gore
I am at 20 Life and my opponent is at 10, Rain of Gore is in play.
I cast Reverse the Sands to redistribute the life totals so that I go to 10 and he goes to 20.
From my understanding of life totals jumping around, life is lost and gained until it becomes the desired value. Does the above play attempt to have my opponent gain 10 life, and lose it and the game instead? Or did I just put myself in a very awkward position?
Your opponent would not lose life, as they are not the controller of Reverse the Sands.
I'm sorry, I don't understand your response. Would you mind elaborating?

Rain of Gore only cares if the controller of a spell or ability gains life. You are the controller of Reverse the Sands so only you would be affected by Rain of Gore if the two cards did interact in any way, which they don't. However, if your opponent had cast a Nourish, then he would have lost 6 life, as he was the controller of the Nourish spell.
Haha, so I was wrong on both accounts. I didn't read Rain of Gore carefully enough to see that it was spell to player specific.
Thanks everyone.
Reverse the Sands makes players lose or gain life: 117.5. If an effect sets a player's life total to a specific number, the player gains or loses the necessary amount of life to end up with the new total.
In this case, however, Rain of Gore doesn't do anything (also, it's not a triggered ability, it's a static ability) because it only works if the controller of the spell or ability gains life. Here the controller loses life and his opponent gains life.

Huh. Well ya learn something new every day. Thanks. In future I will have to be more careful when posting in this forum. :frown:
Okay, so then just to clarify,
If my opponent controlled Rain of Gore, then my opponent cast Reverse the Sands to put himself at 20 and me at 10, he'd kill himself by accident?
