Wayfarer+ priority question

Hi, I need to ask a quick clarification question for my opponent on MWS regarding Weathered Wayfarer.

He has Plains and Horizon Canopy, I have Tundra and Wasteland. I waste his Canopy, retain priority and activate Wayfarer. My opponent believes I can't retain priority and that he can respond to the Wasteland activation to make it so I cannot activate Wayfarer. I disagree, saying that I can retain priority as long as I want, until I'm done and pass it back.

Which is correct?

As long as you explictly retain priority, you can add as many things to the stack as you like without passing. If you don't explicitly retain it, you automatically pass when you add something to the stack.
