By me : )
It's a non-magically specific article on how to get into the city, what to eat and drink, and the best entertainment for your stay.
It's worth reading, if only for knowing where the closest liquor store is to the GP. Ohio has weird blue laws.

Nice article!
I live right off campus, so I highly encourage those after Day 2 to head to the High Street bar areas, as I will try to get people together for that. Sorry, I'm not as cool as Chapin or Kibler, but I have less of a stumble to get home

You rock! I needed to know where the closest place to get beer would be. No beer = bad.

Many thanks for writing that up. I'll definitely follow your advice on bars and food. Can't wait !

Doing technical stuff with the site this weekend, stuff will appear and be disappearing.
If you want a copy, please PM me with an email address and I would love to send you a word doc!
I enjoyed this article, and wish there was something similar for every big event.
My only critique is that for such a foodie you haven't given me the down low on the best dishes and unique places to go, just the easy stuff (BD's Mongolian chain and Buca Di Pepo chain? Fa real?). Thurman's aside, come on! You've got to do better than that Mr. Linn. What are the best places to get:
1) a tasty falafel
2) Ethiopian
3) inventive Mexican
4) a smoking Panang curry
5) handmade pasta
Hook it up.

The challenge is that I'm out of touch with the beat on a lot of up-and-coming Columbus places, so I'll give it my best (google the name + Columbus, you should get a hit)
1. don't know
2. Blue Nile
3. Possibly Cazuela's
4. No really good Indian around the area IMO but there are some on North Hight in the 1100 block or so.
5. Marcella's in Short North

Awesome article. It's great that you're still writing.
I know it's doubtful that we'll ever see a Legacy GP: Portland, but I would write the shit out of this kind of article.
Anyway, well done and good luck Doug. :)

The Taj Mahal on High Street (circa Northwood/High Street intersection) has some great Indian food. I wouldn't consider Cazuela's to be that inventive... however I must say the midday specials are pretty amazing, as it is the only place where I can drink a magarita at noon, albeit for the steep price of $2, and be okay with myself
I'm sure we can find whatever we want at North Market anyways.

Are there any good Italian places around? If so, what region of Italy do they specialize in?

Marcella's is good for American Italian that's done really well. For example, their carpaccio is great. Buca di Beppo is a chain, obv, but also makes good American Italian. Sadly, there's no Mario Batali to sell you braised sweebreads and oxtail on polenta.
I will do some more research on Italian places in the area. There are definitely good ones in Columbus, but they may be 45 minutes away from the event site.

Are the liquor prices pretty high in Ohio?
I've heard they run much higher than most states. I'm coming from MA, so was just wondering if we should be stocking up on the booze here instead of picking it up in Columbus...
Thanks!

It's just so much easier to buy something when you get here. Also, transporting lots of liquor across state lines is a federal offense and is a state offense in Ohio (more than 1 bottle per person of legal age).
But it's not bad - I'd say it's on the lower end of liquor prices. Beer prices are great if you like cheapass plebeian beer like I do. Just know that the stores have restricted hours and you can only buy full-strength liquor at state liquor agencies. Only diluted stuff at supermarkets here.
