Hi everyone,
I'd like to strat with the basic presentation of the deck.
This is a deck made to use, and abuse of steppe lynx and knight of the reliquary.
The idea is really simple : ONE SHOT KILL
I made this deck for fun and play at the first legacy side event at the BOM4 in Annecy, 6 rounds (5-0-1), i lost to a sneak attack/emrakul deck!
The list from there evolved a little to this below (2th at our last local tournament, loosing to a reanimator deck before restriction of Mystical tutor).
// Lands
1 [ZEN] Arid Mesa
1 [ZEN] Misty Rainforest
1 [ZEN] Marsh Flats
2 [WWK] Sejiri Steppe
2 [10E] Treetop Village
2 [FUT] Horizon Canopy
2 [RAV] Forest (2)
3 [TE] Wasteland
3 [OD] Plains (3)
4 [ON] Windswept Heath
4 [A] Savannah
// Creatures
2 [OD] Terravore
4 [CFX] Knight of the Reliquary
4 [FUT] Tarmogoyf
4 [ZEN] Steppe Lynx
4 [ARB] Qasali Pridemage
// Spells
2 [FD] Crucible of Worlds
4 [B] Berserk
4 [R] Swords to Plowshares
4 [ZEN] Adventuring Gear
4 [UL] Crop Rotation
// Sideboard
SB: 2 [WWK] Bojuka Bog
SB: 3 [LRW] Gaddock Teeg
SB: 3 [ALA] Ethersworn Canonist
SB: 3 [TSP] Krosan Grip
SB: 3 [M10] Pithing Needle
SB: 1 [LG] Karakas
Now you know what i'm working on.
Let's see the creatures first :
Steppe Lynx is the ROCK of the deck, abusing fetches, crop rotation, KOTR, and of course berserk !!!
Knight of the Reliquary is the second pillar of the deck, always bigger than a Tarmogoyf, always more usefull, can boost steppe lynx and is a tool box for many other things (protection of my kill with sejiri steppe, searching to wasteland to crush my oppenant mana base, getting an animated land, or and not the list getting a horizon canopy as a draw engine), without forgetting boosting himself and dude like him.
Qasali Pridemage= just a fat guy, nothing to tell more than a must have, boosting steppe lynx ot KOTR, capacity so usefull, nothing much to say.
Tarmogoyf, of course, the big bad guy, even so i really have thought many times to cut him off. Most of the time he is just too small. Mmy use in here : a bait for counters and creatures kills, nothing more. I am a big fan of this guy, but still in this deck, i don't know ?
Terravore = this was more a try than a sure slot, not that efficient as would have wanted. Too much graveyard hate. A card to switch i think!
The spells :
Crop Rotation = the second most important card in the deck beside steppe lynx. At first it was only a boost for the lynx, getting a fetch and fetching, but it turns out most of the time i used it as a tool box to get wastelands, treetop or sejiri steppe.
Berserk = the third card that make me play this deck, in the one shot strategy plan, this is just nuts! Killing turn 2 with a 24/13 lynx ... many times countered but if so, i always have a creature to fight next round with !
Swords to Plowshares = the minimum for killing creatures, i don't play path to exile because i don't want my opponent to search a land, and because i don't care if he wins some lifes.
[card]Crucible of Worlds[/cards] = i like this card because of recuring wasteland, getting back fetches for lynx, abusing of canopy, a good card for middle and late game.
Adventuring Gear = don't laught! This card seems ship, but it made me won more than one game : fat fat steppe lynx, and it is also in the spirit on the deck and abusing landfall trick.
Lands :
The mana base for this kind of deck seems easy to determinate but this is harder than that ...
Number of fetchs, 7 here, might seems low but most of the time i ran out of forest or plains to get, so i will even try to run one less fetch from now on.
Sejiri steppe = the best choice ever, putting this in instant with a crop rotation or KOTR : bam, saving creatures, recuring with crucible to pass through ennemy defense each turn, 1 is ok but two is the good option.
Treetop Village = what to say, must have in this deck, 3/3 trample, searchable via crop and KOTR, pass trought humility. Two is enough.
Horizon Canopy = always happy to see this one, card advantage, using both color i might need, awesome with crucible on tabl.
The side :
Maybe the most questionnable part of this deck !
Bojuka Bog against Ichorid, survival, reanimator, playable with crop and KOTR.
Karakas against Ioona, Emrakul, ... and not so much more.
Pithing Needle This might be one of the best card : against vial, mutavault, grindstone, SDT, ... a must have.
Gaddock Teeg This was usefull against force of will, natural order, humility, the more i play, the more i want to try to put them MD.
Ethersworn Canonist Kkind of a bad choice. It slows me down maybe more than the opponent. I was thinking to switch for Mindbreak Trap but i am not sure about the interaction with Gaddock Teeg.
So, now you have all the informations, i'll be waiting for your comments and idea for any improvement . :)
