A simple question I'm sure has already been addressed elsewhere, but I hope you can still answer me.

Let's say player A has a Jitte with 3 counters on it, and he's at 2 lives. Player B is cracking in with his creatures for 9 damages. Now, Player A blocks with his Jitted creature an opponent's one. The question is: when does Jitte's counters gaining ability trigger? Before or during the combat damage calculation? Can Player A gain 2 counters with Jitte blocking B's creature and then remove them to gain 4 lives before the 9 lethal damage are calculated? Apparently they told me I can't.

Jitte triggers as combat damage is applied. Player A is dead before the trigger can go on the stack.

You will lose!

All combat damage is dealt at once. So you are dealt damage at the exact same time your creature deals combat damage. You get priority after state based effects are checked. If you have 0 or less life you will die the moment state based effects are checked.

Why not use two of the Jitte counters before hand? You stated you had 3 any who.

You would have been able to do this with pre-Sixth Edition rules, since you didn't die until the end of the phase.

If the equipped creature has first strike, you still get counters before you die.

Damage:
- first strike damage
- jitte triggers for damage
- normal damage
- end of damage
