So, will Koth of the Hammer ever see play in legacy? Just curious as to what everyone thinks.

he is cheap enough that he fits many decks' curves. However his abilities are in my opinion vastly underpar compared to the other 4-drop Planeswalkers. Thus I do not believe that he will be a top contender for many of the legacy decks sporting mountains.

There is a lot of disscusion in standard about making big red style decks, you don't think that something like that could be made in legacy?

I am not familiar with the concept of Big Red, but if it is anything similar to Mono-Red Burn... its been tried, its got a faster, better deck already, and there is no room for Koth in the deck without seriously slowing the curve down.

As I recall Big Red was the original style deck back in the standard days of Mirrodin that first featured Arc Slogger. Instead of being sligh/burn, it was more like RDW.

I see, I wouldn't have known that considering I didn't play back during the original Mirrodin Block. However I suppose that makes sense. It might be possible in that line of thinking that Koth could possibly see play in some weird alteration of Dragon Stompy, but that might be a stretch.

Koth, mana ramp into Obliterate, win.

Of course, you have to protect Koth for 1 turn--which is easier said than done in Mono-Red.

I would like to give him a try in Loam decks as a replacement for Seismic Assault. Do I sound excessively crazy for this?

I think Koth fits in a new deck, not in Aggro Loam for the simple reason that loam plays usually plays 3 colors, even playing 2 would be a drawback. Also, you cant exploit Koth's second ability in that deck.

Give him a month and some creative minds will find his niche in legacy :)

Koth's second ability is very abusable in Aggro Loam. Channel all that red mana into cycling Forgotten caves and paying the colorless side of Life from the Loam. You'll be drawing 6+ cards a turn in no time.

I don't think Koth fits into any current shells.

I do however think he can easily find his own home in a tournament level viable shell, he most certainly got the power for it.

Would love to see him in a turbo-obliterate deck, that deck was so much fun to pilot, but I think that'd be too slow. For a realistic deck type, I could easily see him alongside the new masticore and Kargan Dragonlord in a modern sligh (as in the aggro-control and manacurved and not blitzkrieg deck).
